145. Wayne RIGSBY. Born on 19 Sep 1917 in Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, Wayne died in Portales, New Mexico on 7 Aug 2000. Buried on 12 Aug 2000 in Leach Seventh Day Adventist Church Cemetery, Leach, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Wayne Rigsby, 82, of Portales, New Mexico, formerly of Cedar Grove, died Monday, August 7, at his home. Services were held on Saturday, August 12, at the Leach Seventh Day Adventist Church. His brother-in-law, Ray Kelly, officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers who served were Chad Chappell, Kyle Rigsby, Boyd Chappell, Mike Rigsby, Eugene Kirby, Billy Kyle Howley, John Howard Arnold, Travis Fry, Rodney Howley, Jim Gentry, Don Gentry, Jerry Gentry, Denny Gentry, and Kevin Rigsby. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the local arrangements. Mr. Rigsby, the son of the late Emmett and Martha Rigsby, was born September 19, 1917, in Yuma. He grew up in Cedar Grove and graduated from school there. For several years he farmed and worked with a team of mules doing logging in the timber woods of the area. In 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 8th Squadron in Okinawa during World War II. On June 13, 1942, in Biloxi, Mississippi, while he was home on leave, he married Edith Woodard. After the war, they continued to make their home in Carroll County until 1957, when he packed his family in their station wagon and moved west to a drier climate for his daughter's health. They settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He eventually went to work with the Atomic Energy Commission, and later worked at White Sands on the Apollo Project. He retired in 1973, and a year later, he and his wife moved to Portales, New Mexico. He loved raising and trading cattle and horses on his son's ranch. He loved the outdoors, and especially derived joy from hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a deeply spiritual man and reared his family in a fine Christian home. He was known for his honesty and integrity. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Carzie Rigsby, Graydon Rigsby, Dean Rigsby, Blaine Rigsby, and Billy Rigsby; a sister, Adene Kirby; and an infant son. Mr. Rigsby is survived by his wife of more than 58 years, Edith Rigsby; a son, Sam (Marilyn) Rigsby of Portales, New Mexico; a daughter, Kathy (Boyd) Chappell of Portales, New Mexico, a sister, Nell Young of Jackson; and two grandsons, Kyle Wayne Rigsby of Portales, New Mexico and Chad Wayne (Sandy) Chappell of Hobbs, New Mexico.

On 13 Jun 1942 when Wayne was 24, he married Edith WOODARD, daughter of Uris WOODARD (1883-1963) & M. Ophelia MONTGOMERY (1892-1981), in Biloxi, Mississippi. Resided in Portales, New Mexico in Jun 2003.

They had the following children:
