Family of Joseph ROSSER (3) & Nancy BENNETT

9. Benjamin ROSSER. Benjamin died in 1836.

Benjamin first married Sarah FOOSHE.

They had the following children:
i. Joseph. Born on 28 Jul 1819.

ii. Nancy. Born in 1821.

On 16 May 1838 when Nancy was 17, she married Simeon WHITE, in Madison County, Tennessee.

iii. Eliza. Born on 5 Jan 1827. At the age of 73, Eliza died in Madison County, Tennessee on 25 Apr 1900.

On 16 Feb 1843 when Eliza was 16, she married Stephen CARTER.

iv. Sarah. Born on 6 Jan 1830.


Benjamin second married Nancy MORAN. Nancy died in 1836.

They had the following children:
i. William M.. Born on 8 Nov 1831 in Madison County, Tennessee.

William M. married Adeline ANDERSON.

ii. James Nelson. Born on 22 Oct 1833 in North Carolina. At the age of 89, James Nelson died in Madison County, Tennessee on 9 Jul 1923.

In June 1861, James Nelson Rosser joined G.W. Parkinson's Volunteer Infantry Company, the "Carroll Invincibles" at McLemoresville, Tennessee. This company was accepted into Confederate service as Company G, Twenty Second Tennessee Infantry Regiment, and as such saw action at Belmont, Missouri, November 7, 1861, and the Battle of Shiloh. Afterwards, it was consolidated with the Twelfth Infantry Regiment. Rosser saw action at Richmond, Kentucky, where he was seriously wounded, resulting in the amputation of his left arm, and his capture. He was exchanged at Vicksburg during the summer of 1863 and medically discharged in August of that year. He subsequently joined the Quartermaster Corps and served in such capacity through the remainder of the war.

He married Frances C. McLendon of Montezuma, Georgia, December 4,1864. She died January 4, 1880, leaving five surviving children. In his private life, he was a strong Baptist, a staunch Democrat and an unrepentant Confederate to the end.

In 1864 when James Nelson was 30, he first married Frances C. McLENDON. Born in Montezuma, Georgia. Frances C. died on 4 Jan 1880.

James Nelson second married Adeline ANDERSON.
