Obituary: Dr. Roy A. Douglas was born in Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee on January 9, 1891. He was the son of Granville M. Douglas and Martha Jane Kee of Wildersville, Tennessee. He attended grade school at Oak Dale, a one-teacher school at Yuma, Tennessee. He attended high school in Sardis, Henderson County Tennessee and Southern Normal University in Huntingdon, Tennessee, graduating in 1912. Dr. Douglas attended Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee, receiving his medical degree in 1916. He interned at Nashville City Hospital until the beginning of World War I. He then entered the United States Army and was assigned to serve with the British Medical Corps. England had lost so many of her doctors in her war with Germany, our young men were needed and Doctor Douglas was sent to Eastborne Hospital in England. From there, he was sent to Belgium where he served until the end of the war. While serving with the British Medical Corps, Doctor Douglas was awarded the British Military Cross for bravery beyond the call of duty. Upon his return to the United States in 1919, he married Ellena Webb of Nashville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of A.C. Webb and Ellen Honor Webb. They then moved to Huntingdon, Tennessee, where he established his medical practice which spanned nearly a half century. Doctor and Mrs. Douglas had two children: Jean Elizabeth Douglas and Roy A. Douglas, Junior. After being in his office the entire day, Doctor Douglas died at his home the evening of December 1, 1967.

115. Doctor John M. DOUGLAS Senior. Born on 9 Sep 1914. At the age of 80, John M. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 11 Nov 1994. Buried in 1994 in Lexington Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Occupation: Dentist, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.
On 1 Oct 1939 when John M. was 25, he married Mildred DERRYBERRY, daughter of Esco DERRYBERRY & Lillian MOSS. Born on 13 Dec 1917 in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 87, Mildred died on 9 Oct 2005. Buried on 12 Oct 2005 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.
Obituary: Mildred Derryberry Douglass was born December 13, 1917, in Lexington, Tennessee, daughter of Esco and Lillian Moss Derryberry. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1938 with a B.S. in Home Economics. After graduation, she taught Home Economics at the high schools in Sweetwater and Sardis, Tennessee. She married Dr. John M. Douglass, DDS, on October 1, 1939. Her sister, Betty Lee Pope of Nashville, two children, Jane Horn of Memphis, and Dr. John M. Douglass, Jr. (Leslie Matthews) of Nashville, four grandchildren: Chandler Lamb, Katherine Perkins, Mary Margaret Celosse and Elliott Douglass, and six great-grandchildren survive her. Her main interest outside of her family was her love for her Lord and her church. She served on many committees in the First United Methodist Church and in the United Methodist Women, where she served as Vice President for two years and treasurer for four years. She taught Sunday school classes from the nursery to the Ladies’ Deborah class and served on the church conference council on Finance and Administration for eight years. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Tennessee. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington with interment in Lexington Cemetery.
