Charles Pritchard owned 11 slaves during the 1860 Census.

KEY I GIVE AND BEQUEATH THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED LANDS FOR HER NATURAL LIFE TO HER SOLE AND SEPARATE USE, MY HOUSE TRACT OF LAND IN CARROLL COUNTY AND MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN THE DEED FROM ALEXANDER SMITH TO ME FOR THE SAME AND A TRACT OF ONE HUNDRED AND THREE ACRES WHICH I PURCHASED OF MY BROTHER JESSIE, SITUATE IN CARROLL COUNTY, TENNESSEE AND THAT PART OF THE BEN WILLIAMS TRACT NOT GIVEN MY DAUGHTER MRS. PHILLIPS WHICH IS SITUATE IN HENDERSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE. THE SAID BEQUEST ARE SUBJECT TO THE ESTATE GIVEN TO MY WIFE IN THE FIRST ITEM OF THIS WILL AND TO VEST IN POSSESSION IN THE SAID SUSAN UPON THE TERMINATION OF THE PARTICULAR ESTATE ABOVE REFERED AND TO BE USED AND ENJOYED BY HER TO HER SOLE AND SEPPERATE USE DURING HER NATURAL LIFE AND AT HER DEATH TO BE EQUALLY DIVIDED BETWEEN HER CHILDREN.

I GIVE TO MY DAUGHGTER JANE COX TO HER SOLE AND SEPPERATE USE FOR HER NATURAL LIFE TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ACRES OF LAID WHERE SHE AND HER HUSBAND NOW RESIDE SITUATE IN CARROLL COUNTY, TENNESSEE NEAR SHAVER MILL TO VEST IN POSSESSION UPON THE TERMINATION OF THE PARTICULAR ESTATE GIVEN TO MY WIFE AND TO BE HELD AND ENJOYED BY THE SAID JANE COX TO HER SOLE AND SEPPERATE USE FOR AND DURING HER NATURAL LIFE, FREE FROM THE CONTROL AND LIABILITIES OF HER PRESENT OR FUTURE HUSBAND AND UPON HER DEATH TO BE EQUALLY DIVIDED AMONG HER CHILDREN EXCEPT ELIZA MITCHUM WHO I DESIRE MAY BE EXCLUDED FROM THE ENJOYMENT OF ANY PART OF MY ESTATE.

TO BENJAMIN PRICHARD I GIVE AND BEQUEATH THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED TRACTS OF LAND, ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ACRES KNOWN AS THE BRADFORD FARM AND A TRACT OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE ACRES FORMERLY OWNED BY JO GIST SITUATE ON THE LINE OF CARROLL AND HENDERSON COUNTIES SUBJECT TO THE PARTICULAR ESTATE GIVE TO MY WIFE.

ITEM, 6TH. TO EACH OF MY GRANDCHILDREN, ELIZABETH ROSSER, JAMES S. PRICHARD AND MARY PRICHARD THE CHILDREN OF SOLOMON PRICHARD I GIVE ONE HUNDRED ACRES OF LAND OUT OF THE TRACT I PURCHASED OF JO TOLBERT TRUSTEE &C SITUATE IN HENDERSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE WHICH SAID BEQUEST IS SUBJECT TO THE PARTICULAR ESTATE GIVEN TO MY SAID WIFE AND THE ONE HUNDRED ACRES GIVE TO MY GRANDDAUGHTER ELIZABETH ROSSER I GIVE TO HER SOLE AND SEPARATE USE.

ITEM, SEVENTH. TO MY DAUGHTERS, MOURNING E. PHILLIPS WIFE OF WILLIAM PHILLIPS OF CARROLL COUNTY, TEN. AND SUSAN E. KEY I GIVE ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH AT THE DEATH OF MY WIFE IF THERE SHOULD BE SO MUCH OF MY PERSONAL ESTATE REMAINING TO BE USED AND ENJOYED BY MY SAID DAUGHTERS RESPECTIVELY TO THEIR SOLE AND SEPARATE USE.

ITEM, EIGHTH. TO MY DAUGHTER JANE COX I GIVE FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS IN CASH AT THE DEATH OF HER MOTHER PROVIDED THAT HER HUSBAND SHALL PAY TO ME OR MY EXECUTORS THE AMOUNT HE NOW OWE ME OTHERWISE THAT AMOUNT TO BE DEDUCTED FROM THIS LEGACY.

AND WHICH CONTAINS FIVE HUNDRED ACRES, I GIVE TO MY SON JESSIE TWO HUNDRED ACRES SUBJECT TO THE BEQUEST TO MY WIFE WHICH SAID TWO HUNDRED ACRES IS TO BE LAID of AS FOLLOWS TO WIT. BEGINNING ON THE NORTH LINE OF SAID TRACT SAY ABOUT ONE HUNDRED YARDS FROM THE BRANCH WHICH RUNS THROUGH THE FIELD, TENCE TO THE BRANCH & THEN WITH ITS MEANDERS TO THE SOUTH BOUNDARY LINE OF SAID TRACT. THEN WEST WITH PETER PEARSON's LINE SO FAR AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO INCLUDE TWO HUNDRED ACRES BY RUNING DUE NORTH AND THIS LEGACY IS TO BE CHARGED WITH THE AMOUNT WHICH THE SAID JESSIE IS OWING ME AND IN DEFAULT OF LAWFUL CHILDREN AT HIS DEATH, THE SAID LANDS SHALL BE DIVIDED EQUALLY AMONG HIS BROTHERS AND SISTERS OR THEIR LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES EXCEPT THE CHILDREN OR LEGAL REPRESENTATIVES OF MY DECEASED DAUGHTER MARY WHO INTERMARRIED WITH NATHAN PEARSON AS IT IS MY WILL AND DESIRE THAT NEITHER HER HUSBAND OR ANY OF HER CHILDREN SHALL HAVE ANY PART OF MY ESTATE. In 1817 when Charles was 20, he married Martha WILLIAMS, daughter of Dudley WILLIAMS (1770-1815) & Nancy HARRIS (1771-). Born on 10 Nov 1800 in North Carolina. At the age of 82, Martha died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 3 Oct 1883. Buried in Oct 1883 in Pritchard Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880.

They had the following children:

ii. Elizabeth A.. Born on 7 Jan 1819 in North Carolina. At the age of 18, Elizabeth A. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 28 Jul 1837. Buried in Jul 1837 in Pritchard Family Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee.

v. Jesse W.. Born on 11 May 1829 in North Carolina. At the age of 52, Jesse W. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 25 Aug 1881. Buried in Aug 1881 in Dr. Dudley H. Williams Cemetery, Parkers Crossroads, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880.

Jesse Pritchard was never married.

It appeared to the Court that CHARLES PRITCHARD died testate in 1882 /1872/ and his last will had been probated and B. S. PRITCHARD had served as executor of same. The testator left 200 acres of land to JESSE PRITCHARD who had died since the will was probated, having never married, but surviving him were his brother, B. S. PRITCHARD, sister SUSAN KEY wife of T. L. KEY and the children of a brother, SOLOMON PRITCHARD, dec. who left children, ELIZABETH ROSSER, wife of T. G. ROSSER, MARY KEY, wife of NELSON KEY, J. W. PRITCHARD. B. S. PRITCHARD was survived by a sister, JANE COX, wife of HENRY COX; the children of a sister, MORNING PHILLIPS, dec. who were AMANDA PHILLIPS, CHARLEY

PHILLIPS, WILLIAM PHILLIPS, ELIZABETH L. PHILLIPS. These were the survivors of JESSE PRITCHARD, dec. The Clerk and Master was ordered to sell this 200 acres for the benefit of the heirs after it had been properly surveyed.



Jesse W. Pritchard, 8th District, Henderson County, Tennessee, owned seven slaves during the 1860 Census.

Susan E. married Thomas R. LIFSEY, son of Edwin LIFSEY & ?, in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 21 Jul 1831 in North Carolina. At the age of 76, Thomas R. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 23 Oct 1907. Buried on 23 Oct 1907 in Obion Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 24, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 5, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1900. Religion: Member of Williams Chapel Church of Christ, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Thomas was living in house # 1630, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee, during the 1860 Census. Name is misspelled as Leftus instead of Lifsey.

iv. Lafayette. Born in Jun 1842 in Tennessee. At the age of 18, Lafayette died in Tennessee on 20 Jan 1861. Buried in 1861 in Pearson Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860.

Jesse married Elizabeth ?. Born in 1812 in North Carolina. Alias/AKA: "Betsy".

They had the following children:
i. William L.. Born in 1834 in North Carolina. At the age of 28, William L. died in 1862. Resided in North Division, Marshall County, Mississippi in 1850.

ii. Barton P.. Born in 1836 in Tennessee. At the age of 27, Barton P. died in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1863. Resided in North Division, Marshall County, Mississippi in 1850.

iii. Mary E.. Born in 1840 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in North Division, Marshall County, Mississippi in 1850.

21 iv. Eliza Jane (1844-1892)
v. Calvin Jesse. Born in 1852 in Marshall County, Mississippi. At the age of 27, Calvin Jesse died in Phillips County, Arkansas in 1879.

vi. Elizabeth A.. Born in 1854.


6. Stephen PRITCHARD. Born in 1814 in North Carolina. At the age of 38, Stephen died on 10 May 1852. Resided in Carroll County, Tennessee in 1840.

"Stephen Pritchard, age 38, born in North Carolina, occupation: laborer. Convicted of rape by a court in Carroll County, and sentenced to 21 year in the Penitentiary. Received May 16, 1844 and discharged May 10, 1852." Stephen Pritchard died in Prison.
