PENDERGRASS. Born on 10 Dec 1884 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 101, Florence L. died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 29 Nov 1986. Buried in Nov 1986 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Florence L. married Thomas Sidney BRANDON, son of John R. BRANDON (1853-1930) & Elizabeth Jane GROGAN (1856-1937). Born on 19 Sep 1874 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 65, Thomas Sidney died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 19 May 1940. Buried in May 1940 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930. Alias/AKA: "Sid".

iii. Jamie. Born on 16 Mar 1922 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 72, Jamie died on 2 Aug 1994. Buried in 1994 in Clarksburg Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Jamie married Woodrow Wilson SUMMERS. Born on 7 Apr 1919. At the age of 76, Woodrow Wilson died on 29 Dec 1995. Buried in 1995 in Clarksburg Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.


58. J. Priestly PENDERGRASS. Born in 1890 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 80, J. Priestly died in Madison County, Tennessee on 4 Dec 1970. Buried in 1970 in Carroll County Memorial Gardens, Carroll County, Tennessee. Occupation: Carpenter. Religion: Church of Christ.

Obituary: J. Priest Pendergrass, 79, Carpenter, died December 4, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services were at 1 p.m. December 5 at Huntingdon Church of Christ. Bro. W.M. Jackson officiated. Burial was in Carroll County Memorial Gardens. Dilday Funeral Home had charge. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Patterson Pendergrass; three sons, Tommy Pendergrass of Huntingdon, Joe Pendergrass of Nashville and James L. Pendergrass of Clarksburg; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Brandon and Mrs. Flora Rainey of Clarksburg; three step-sons, Homer Forrest of Terry Community, Hulon Forrest of Trezevant, and Ray Forrest of Huntingdon; one step-daughter, Mrs. Jamie White of Huntingdon.

On 15 Dec 1915 when J. Priestly was 25, he first married Lora Jane MILAM, daughter of Rufus Lafayette MILAM (1873-1954) & Maggie Mae HOOD (1878-1963). Born in 1899 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 63, Lora Jane died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 1 Jun 1962. Buried in Jun 1962 in Carroll County Memorial Gardens, Carroll County, Tennessee. Cause of death: Cancer.

Obituary: Mrs. Lora Jane Pendergrass, 63, died at her home on the Buena Vista Road Monday at 2 a.m. following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Huntingdon Church of Christ with B. F. Haynie and Hubert Dill officiating. Burial followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens with Dilday Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Paul Sanders, Jimmie Hood, B. C. Hilliard, Loyd Milam, Wallace Milam and Clyde Milam. Mrs. Pendergrass was the daughter of R. F. and Maggie Hood Milam. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are her husband, Priest Pendergrass; three sons, Joe Pendergrass of Nashville, James Pendergrass of Huntsville, Ala., and Tommy Pendergrass of Huntingdon; seven grand children; her mother, Mrs. Fate Milam; five brothers, Rice Milam and Eldon Milam both of Yuma, Arthur Milam of Memphis, Ruse Milam of Florida and Jesse Ray Milam of California; and two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Kirby of Huntingdon and Mrs. Virgil Roberts of McKenzie.

Hulon married Frances Nell SCOTT, daughter of Luther Jackson SCOTT (1880-1960) & Suddie Lillian HOOD (1890-1966). Resided in Trezevant, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Dec 2003.

iii. Ray (Step Child of Husband). Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in Dec 1970.

59. Lewis Augdon PENDERGRASS. Born in Apr 1894 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 84, Lewis Augdon died in Atwood, Tennessee on 27 Jul 1978. Buried in Jul 1978 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930. Occupation: Carpenter. Religion: Church of Christ.

Obituary: Lewis A. Pendergrass, 84, retired carpenter, died at his home in Atwood, on July 27, 1978. Funeral services were held on July 28 at 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Clarksburg with Jesse Pinkley and Clifford Lyons, ministers officiating. Burial was in Sellers Cemetery. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Laws Pendergrass; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Perkins of Lavinia and Ms. Robbie Sue Webb of Memphis; two sons, Wilfred Pendergrass of Memphis and Doyle Pendergrass of Burns, Tenn; eight grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, one brother, Ava Pendergrass of Clarksburg and one sister, Mrs. Florence Brandon of Clarksburg. Mr. Pendergrass was a member of the Church of Christ. His parents were James and Martha Jane Rigsby Pendergrass.

On 24 Jan 1926 when Lewis Augdon was 31, he married Edith Adell LAWS, daughter of John Sims LAWS (1878-1920) & Siddie Emily BRANDON (1883-1956). Born on 12 Jan 1905 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 93, Edith Adell died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 19 Apr 1998. Buried in Apr 1998 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930. Occupation: Homemaker. Religion: Church of Christ.

60. Flora PENDERGRASS. Born in 1897 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Flora died in Carroll County, Tennessee. Buried in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

On 3 Mar 1924 when Flora was 27, she first married Berry D. WILES, son of George Alexander WILES (1858-) & Serena CARTER (1862-), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born in Feb 1893. At the age of 44, Berry D. died on 23 Sep 1937. Buried in Sep 1937 in Palestine Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 7th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1900.

Military: Served in World War I at the rank of Private, 311th Infantry, 78th Division.

Flora second married Jessie Grover RAINEY, son of James Robert RAINEY (1865-1924) & Sophia Elizabeth Beth WESTERN (1874-1951). Born in 1897. At the age of 68, Jessie Grover died in 1965. Buried in 1965 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Ava Clarence PENDERGRASS. Born on 5 Apr 1900 in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, Ava Clarence died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 3 Apr 1983. Buried on 4 Apr 1983 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 13, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930. Occupation: Merchant at Clarksburg, farmer and carpenter. Religion: Clarksburg Church of Christ, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Ava".

Charter member of Clarksburg Ruritan Club, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee

Obituary: Services for Ava C. Pendergrass, 82 of Clarksburg, were Monday, April 4 at Clarksburg Church of Christ with ministers Jesse Pinckley and Ivie Powell officiating. Burial was in the Sellers Cemetery with Dilday Funeral Home of Huntingdon in charge. Mr. Pendergrass, a retired carpenter died Sunday morning at Carroll County General Hospital in Huntingdon after a long illness. He was a Clarksburg native and a member of Clarksburg Church of Christ, serving as a deacon for more than 20 years. He was a charter member of Clarksburg Ruritan Club. Mr. Pendergrass was married in 1932 to the former Jessie Smith, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lottie Umstead of Columbia, Mrs. Ruthie Ozier of Florence, Alabama, and Mrs. Claudine Adams of Huntingdon; a sister, Mrs. Florence Brandon of Huntingdon; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


In 1932 when Ava Clarence was 31, he married Jessie SMITH, daughter of Claudius Homer SMITH (1879-1954) & Ruth Lenora HOOD (1884-1971), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 9 Sep 1905 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 78, Jessie died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 15 Apr 1984. Buried in 1984 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Occupation: Homemaker and lunchroom worker at Clarksburg School. Religion: Clarksburg Church of Christ, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Services for Mrs. Jessie Smith Pendergrass, 78 of Clarksburg were Thursday, April 19 at Clarksburg Church of Christ with Jesse Pinckley and Don Turnmire officiating. Burial was in Sellers Cemetery with Dilday Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Pendergrass, widow of Ava Pendergrass, died Tuesday afternoon at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon after a long illness. She was a native of Carroll County and a member of Clarksburg Church of Christ. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Claudine Adams of Huntingdon; Mrs. Lottie Umstead of Columbia, and Mrs. Ruthie Ozier of Florence, Alabama; a sister, Mrs. Willie Wall of Memphis; a brother, Lidle Smith of Memphis; 10 grandchildren and two great grand children.

62. Virgie PENDERGRASS. Born in 1904 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 38, Virgie died in Carroll County, Tennessee in 1942. Buried in 1942 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

On 15 Oct 1927 when Virgie was 23, she married Gurther Curtis ROARK, son of William Dewitt ROARK (1852-1927) & Sarah Parilee FISHER (1868-1945). Born on 18 Apr 1898 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Gurtha".

They had the following children:

ii. Billy Jim. Born on 10 Jan 1932 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 69, Billy Jim died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 16 Oct 2001. Buried on 18 Oct 2001 in Obion Chapel Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Billy Jim Roark, 69, of Huntingdon, died Tuesday, October 16, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services were held on Thursday, October 18, in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Ernest Ray Pounds and Brother Tim Lunn officiated. Burial followed in the Obion Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Roark, the son of the late Gurther and Virgie Pendergrass Roark, was born January 10, 1932, in Clarksburg. He was a retired employee of Fisher Building Company and a member of the Obion Chapel Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delma Hardeman Roark, who died in 1985. He is survived by a sister, Bennie Alford of Huntingdon; and four nieces.


Billy Jim married Delma HARDEMAN. Delma died in 1985.
