On 27 Feb 1916 when Carl Edwin was 21, he married Effie Bell PRITCHARD, daughter of John Clark PRITCHARD (1854-1902) & Emily Alice POTEETE (1867-1902), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 7 Nov 1898 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 92, Effie Bell died on 19 Mar 1991. Religion: Obion Chapel Church of Christ, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Reared by Shade and Lavada Pearson

Effie Bell Pritchard was born November 7, 1898, to John Clark and Alice Poteete Pritchard, in Carroll County. Later the family moved to Lake County, Tennessee. Orphaned by her parents death in November 1902, Effie along with three older brothers were returned to Carroll County. (A younger sister, Lida, aged 18 mo. was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Will Stewart of Tiptonville.) Effie was reared by the late Shade and Lavada Pearson. Her brothers and sister preceded her in death. Fred died in 1917, Lida in 1918, John in 1952 and Isaac "Ike" in 1971. On January 28, 196, Effie was married to Carl Edwin Lifsey, who preceded her in death November 1970. To this union was born two sons and a daughter. She had lived her entire life, (after returning to Carroll County) in the Terry community. All of her married life was spent in the same house and only a few hundred feet from the place where she grew up. She was a member of the Obion Chapel Church of Christ and attended services faithfully as long as her health permitted. She had been in failing health for the past year or so, but only seriously ill for about a month. She was always smiling and soft spoken and bore her final suffering with great patience. She was meek and humble person and we should all do well to follow her example. She passed from this life March 19, 1991, being 92 years, 4 months and 12 days old. She was laid to rest at Obion Chapel, by the side of her late husband, under a mound of beautiful flowers, with Ernest Pounds conducting the services. Pallbearers were her grandsons, George Miller, Wayne Miller, Tony Miller, Richard Lifsey, Jimmy Dean Lifsey and Steve Lifsey. Survivors are two sons, J.W. Lifsey of Cedar Grove, Mauree Lifsey of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and one daughter, Frances Jewell Miller of Cedar Grove, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn her passing. I have many precious memories of the times I spent in her home during my childhood days, and even after the death of my own parents, I lived in her home for some six or eight months. She was kind of a second mother to me and I'll miss her very much.

Written by her niece,
Dorothy Pritchard Laws
