Obituary: The citizens of Lexington have not received a greater shock than on last Friday, when the news went from mouth to mouth and over the telephone wires, at about two o'clock, that Mrs. Hazel, the beloved wife of Charlie Howard, had just breathed her last. Events of the morning had somewhat prepared many for the worst, but as in all cases, the shock was great when it came. Those who stood by the bedside of that young, lovely and lovable wife and three times a mother, say that she died as she had lived--gently and sweetly. This sad and seemingly untimely death was the culmination of an illness of nearly three weeks duration, with typhoid fever and complications, caused perhaps by the fact that for twenty-one days she sat by the bedside of her little son, almost without relief day or night, because she could not bear to be away from her then only baby, little John Dennison, about two years old. The funeral was held in the home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Fleetwood Ball officiating, and the remains carried to the Lexington Cemetery. Hazel Nema, second child and elder daughter of James R. and Mrs. Lovie Dennison, was born in Lexington, September 4, 1891. On May 3, 1907, at the tender age of almost sixteen years she was happily married to Charlie H. Howard, son of C.F. and Mrs. Cornelia Howard. To the union three children were born, the last being buried in the same grave with the mother. To know Hazel Howard was to love her. Her sweetness of disposition, her purity of soul, won all who came in contact with her. Truly it is hard to give her up, to see her cut down in the very flower of young wifehood, motherhood and womanhood, but a second thought ought to show us that we should not, if we could, bring her back from the home on High to the inevitable sorrows of this world. We believe her sweet soul is resting in peace and we pray that God, in his good way, may console those hearts are torn and bleeding by the great sorrow of her loss.
On 3 May 1907 when Hazel Nema was 15, she married Charlie HOWARD, son of Charles F. HOWARD (1851-1930) & Cornelia BROWN.
They had one child:
