Family of Louvisa Ann MEALS (19) & Madison Hartwell MILAM

44. Doctor Rufus Henry MILAM. Born on 16 Dec 1871 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 55, Rufus Henry died in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee on 11 Mar 1927. Buried in 1927 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Chesterfield, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1917.

Obituary: Prominent Doctor and Good Citizen, Dr. R.H. Milam died Thursday Night after an Illness of several Months.. Dr. Rufus Henry Milam, aged 56 years, breathed his last March 11th, at the family home on Jackson Street after an illness from dropsy and other complications. A son of the late M.H. and Lavica Meals Milam, he was born northwest of Lexington, December 16th, 1871. He was educated in the common schools of the county, and on April 3rd, 1890, was married to Miss Lucy Penelope Graves. To this union were born four children: Mary Lorene, died at one year of age, and Mrs. G.F. (Lavica Laverna) Walker, died 17 years ago. The sons, Oscar L. Milam, of Westlaco, Texas, and Hal Milam, are left with their mother to mourn this devoted husband and indulgent father. He leaves also two sisters, Mrs. I.M. (Mellie) Fesmire and Mrs. E. L. (Flora) Fesmire; four half brothers, Edgar, Luther, Sam, and James Milam, and two half sisters, Mrs. Ethel Giles and Mrs. Beulah Laws. A brother, James Hartwell Milam, died November 5th, 1901, and a sister, Miss Anna Milam, died September 28th, 1894.  About 26 years ago, he began the practice of medicine at Rock Springs, this county, having received his training in the medical department at the University of Tennessee, Nashville. In 1902, he moved to Chesterfield to practice his profession and remained there until he came to Lexington. In the practice of his profession he was faithful, unselfish and kind. He had been a member of the Rock Springs Methodist Episcopal Church, South, about 35 years, and on April 15th, 1920, his membership was transferred to the Lexington Church of the same denomination. Rev. W.D. Jenkins and Rev. Fleetwood Ball conducted the funeral service at the residence; the Senior Class of the High School, classmates of Hal Milam, attended in a body. Burial in Lexington Cemetery.

On 3 Apr 1890 when Rufus Henry was 18, he married Lucy Penelope GRAVES, daughter of Major Lee GRAVES (1831-1905) & Mary G. ADAMS (1839-1905). Born in 1872. At the age of 77, Lucy Penelope died in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1949. Buried in May 1949 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Chesterfield, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1916. Alias/AKA: "Dollie".

Funeral services for Mrs. R.H. Milam, 77, were conducted in the family home Thursday afternoon by Rev.Edwin Deusner. She was a member of the Ridge Grove Baptist Church, having united there at an early age. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Milam was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Major L. Graves. In 1890 she was married to the late Dr. R.H. Milam. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters. Two sons, Oscar and Hal, survive; and a brother Joe H. Graves of Hendersonville.

They had the following children:
i. Lavica Laverna. Born on 24 Aug 1891 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 19, Lavica Laverna died in Chesterfield, Henderson County, Tennessee in Apr 1911. Buried in Apr 1911 in Union Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Mrs. Fielder (Lavica Laverna) Walker, aged 20 years, come August 24, wife of Fielder Walker and daughter of R.H. Milam of Chesterfield, died at her home one mile from Chesterfield, last Friday morning at 2 o'clock, after an illness of three weeks, following the birth of a baby boy who survives. All that love and devotion could devise, all that medical skill could suggest was done to save the life of the young wife and mother, but the Grim Reaper had marked her for his prey and God in his wisdom thought it best to take her from the Earth to that beautiful home on high. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were married four years ago and for them life had been full of goodly promise. When the child came to bless their home, to make it a home as nothing else could, their hopes were high, but alas! the certainty of life, the certainty of death. The remains were interred at Union on Friday afternoon, Revs. Fleetwood Ball and Frank Boren officiating.

ii. Oscar L.. Born on 3 May 1895. At the age of 79, Oscar L. died on 11 Oct 1974. Buried in Oct 1974 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Westlaco, Texas in 1927.

Oscar L. married Lessie ?. Born on 6 Jul 1895. At the age of 85, Lessie died on 14 Nov 1980. Buried in Nov 1980 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

iii. Royal Hal. Born on 7 May 1908. At the age of 75, Royal Hal died on 12 Jan 1984. Buried in Jan 1984 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1931. Alias/AKA: "Hal".

On 4 Jun 1931 when Royal Hal was 23, he married Sylvia McCONNELL, in Metropolis, Illinois. Born on 26 Aug 1913. At the age of 77, Sylvia died on 9 Apr 1991. Buried in 1991 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Marriage Announcement: An interesting wedding occurred Sunday, June 4th, 1931, in Metropolis, Illinois, when Mr. Hal Milam and Miss Sylvia McConnell were married. Mr. Milam was reared in Lexington and is the son of Mrs. R. H. and the late Dr. Milam. He has been a teacher in the county and engaged in various business enterprises. His bride has lived in Lexington for about a year, her father being connected with the N. C. & St. L. Ry. She lived previously in Kentucky and has many friends both in her old home and in Lexington. They are living at present with Mr. Milam's mother on North Main Street.

Melvina Josephine MILAM. Born on 18 Apr 1872 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 70, Melvina Josephine died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 22 Jan 1943. Buried in 1943 in Antioch Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1917. Alias/AKA: "Molly" or "Mellie".

Obituary: Mellie Josephine Milam, daughter of the late Hart and Lucy Meals Milam, was born April 18, 1872, and died January 22, 1943, aged 70 years. She was united in marriage to Isaac M. Fesmire on October 5, 1890. To this union were born the following children: Cecil of Fairvew; Mrs. Ruby Johnson of Center Ridge; J.L. Fesmire of Lexington; and Mrs. Maurine Mount of Jackson. Mrs. Fesmire is also survived by three sisters, Ms. E.L. Fesmire, Lexington; Mrs. Hubert Giles and Mrs. John Laws, Jackson,; five brothers, Edgar Milam, Jackson; Elmer Milam, Lexington; Luther, James, and Sam, Luray. One sister, Anna, died at the age of four years; and two brothers, Dr. Hardy Milam and Henry Milam, died several years ago. Rev. Daniel Bishop conducted the funeral services at Antioch Baptist Church.

On 5 Oct 1890 when Melvina Josephine was 18, she married Isaac Martin FESMIRE, son of John Alston FESMIRE (1822-1906) & Louisa Jane GARNER (1830-1914), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 23 Mar 1865 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 80, Isaac Martin died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 7 Aug 1945. Buried in 1945 in Antioch Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1938. Resided in 7th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Ike".

Obituary: Isaac Martin Fesmire died in the home of his son, Cecil A. Fesmire, at Fairview, August 7, 1945. He was the son of John Fesmire and Jane Garner Fesmire, and was born March 23, 1865. He was married to Millie Josephine Milam on October 19, 1890. Mrs. Fesmire died January 22, 1943. He is survived by the following children: Cecil A. Fesmire of Fairview; Mrs. V.W. Johnson of Lexington; J.L. Fesmire of Oak Grove, and Mrs. Maxine Mount of Jackson. He is survived by two brothers, E.L. Fesmire of Lexington and F.W. Fesmire of Jackson and one sister, Mrs. H.L. Williams of McLemoresville. He leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death. Rev. A.D. Bishop conducted the services at Antioch Church near Lexington.

46. Flora Catherine MILAM. Born on 27 Nov 1875 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 92, Flora Catherine died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 2 Feb 1968. Buried in 1968 in Antioch Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1917.

On 18 Jan 1894 when Flora Catherine was 18, she married Edward Lafayette FESMIRE, son of John Alston FESMIRE (1822-1906) & Louisa Jane GARNER (1830-1914), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born in Sep 1871 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 92, Edward Lafayette died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 2 Apr 1964. Buried in 1964 in Antioch Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1938. Alias/AKA: "Fate".

They had the following children:
