First Generation

1. Samuel MEALS. Born on 1 Mar 1759 in York, Pennsylvania. At the age of 43, Samuel died in Jefferson County, Tennessee on 1 Dec 1802. Samuel served as a gunner in the Virginia Navy during the American Revolutionary War.

Military: Samuel served in the Revolutionary War as a Seaman in the Virginia Navy 1777-1781. Four months of this was served as a gunner. His name appeared on a list of Virginia Seamen who received part of his pay on December 5, 1781. He was discharged on February 5, 1781. The balance of his pay was a land grant issued to him on December 5, 1783.


In 1780 when Samuel was 20, he married Winnie ?, in York County, Pennsylvania. Born in 1762. At the age of 66, Winnie died on 12 Mar 1828.

They had the following children:
2 i. John (1783-1864)
ii. Jennett. Born on 15 Jun 1785.

On 20 Mar 1805 when Jennett was 19, she first married Douglass PUCKETT, in Jefferson County, Tennessee.

On 12 Aug 1815 when Jennett was 30, she second married John HODGES.

3 iii. Lewis (1788-1856)
iv. Elizabeth. Born on 28 Feb 1790 in Virginia.

4 v. Daniel J. (1791-1870)
vi. James A.. Born on 29 Oct 1793.

5 vii. Sarah (1794-1870)
viii. Nancy. Born on 26 Mar 1798. At the age of 31, Nancy died on 7 Sep 1829.

Nancy married Isaac TODD.

6 ix. William Henderson (1800-1859)
