Little Nancy Mariah Jumped in the fire The fire was so hot She jumped in the pot The pot was so black She jumped in the crack The crack was so high She jumped in the sky The sky was so blue She jumped in the canoe The canoe was so shallow She jumped in the tallow The tallow was so soft She jumped in the loft The loft was so rotten She jumped in the cotton The cotton was so white She jumped clean out of sight And that was the last of Little Nancy Mariah! On 25 Dec 1899 when Nancy Mariah was 18, she married John Daniel MEALS, son of William Archy MEALS (1857-1880) & Martha Minerva MASSEY (1855-1927), in Madison County, Tennessee. Born on 23 Sep 1877 in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, John Daniel died in Cedar Grove, Carroll County, Tennessee on 6 Feb 1960. Buried in 1960 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Occupation: Farmer and merchant. Obituary: John Daniel Meals, retired farmer and former county merchant, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at his home after a long illness. He was 82. Services were held at 2 Sunday afternoon at the New Liberty Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Prince officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with Dilday Funeral Home in charge. He was a lifelong resident of Clarksburg and a member of the Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lee Kelly Meals: two sons, Johnny Meals of Jackson, and Billy Meals of Clarksburg; four daughters: Mrs. Luther Gurley and Mrs. Homer Williamson, both of Clarksburg, Mrs. Oscar Cockran of Spring Creek, and Mrs. Fred Newman of Jackson and a sister, Mrs. Susie Johnson of Clarksburg.
