William Matthew LEWIS Junior. Born in 1839 in Tennessee. At the age of 52, William Matthew died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1891. Buried in 1891 in Lewis-Altom Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Bill".

William Matthew married Nancy Ann WOOD, daughter of William Osborn WOOD & Elizabeth ESSARY. Born in 1839 in Tennessee. At the age of 82, Nancy Ann died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1921. Buried in 1921 in Lewis-Altom Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

3. Elijah Willis LEWIS. Born in Sep 1842 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

Elijah Willis married Fredonia Elizabeth GRIGGS, daughter of Elkins GRIGGS (1796-) & Lucy DRAKE (1801-1863). Born in 1846 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 65, Fredonia Elizabeth died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 17 Oct 1911.

John Gray LEWIS. Born on 13 Jul 1846 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 55, John Gray died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 1 Oct 1901. Buried in Oct 1901 in Foster Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

Around 1872 when John Gray was 25, he first married Adaline JONES, daughter of George Washington JONES (1830-) & Elmira GRIGGS (1830-), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 27 Jan 1854 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 31, Adaline died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 30 May 1885. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

13 v. Lessie E. (1884-)

On 18 Jun 1893 when John Gray was 46, he second married Lovie Ann BLOUNT, daughter of John Grey BLOUNT (1821-1909) & Kizzie Amelia BREWER (1825-1868). Born on 27 May 1857 in Tennessee. At the age of 88, Lovie Ann died on 13 Oct 1945. Resided in District 24, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1910.

Obituary: Funeral services for Mrs. Lovie Lewis, 88, who died at her home on Church Street Saturday afternoon were conducted at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Edwin E. Deusner, pastor, presiding. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Lovie Ann Blount Lewis was born Mary 27, 1857, in Carroll County, the daughter of John G. and Kizzah Brewer Blount. She died October 13, 1945, aged 88 years. She was married to Barney Bruce in 1877 and to this union was born one child, who died in infancy. After the death of Mr. Bruce, she was married to John G. Lewis, and to this union were born three children: Ezra K. Lewis and Miss Dura Lewis of Lexington, and Miss Athan Lewis of Memphis. Mr. Lewis preceded her to the grave 44 years ago. She is survived also by two stepchildren, George W. Lewis and Mrs. Lizzie Wallace, and one brother, I.J. Blount of Jackson; and two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Rosser of Wildersville and Mrs. Rosa Horn of Trenton. Mrs. Lewis had been a member of the Baptist Church for 76 years and was a member of the Westport Baptist Church.

They had the following children:

ii. Athan Alma. Born on 16 Jan 1897. At the age of 85, Athan Alma died on 28 Feb 1982. Resided in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee in 1945.

iii. Dura Ethen. Born on 17 Jun 1899. At the age of 74, Dura Ethen died on 6 Jul 1973. Resided in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1945.


5. James G. LEWIS. Born on 19 Aug 1847 in Tennessee. At the age of 87, James G. died in Malesus, Madison County, Tennessee on 15 May 1935. Buried in May 1935 in Lewis Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900. Resided in Old District 17, District 1, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910. Resided in District 1, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1920.

In 1868 when James G. was 20, he married Mary JOWERS. Born on 20 Mar 1852 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 56, Mary died on 16 Jul 1908. Buried in Jul 1908 in Lewis Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900.

They had the following children:

6. Thomas Green LEWIS. Born in May 1851 in Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900.

Thomas Green married Adah JONES, daughter of George Washington JONES (1830-) & Elmira GRIGGS (1830-). Born in Dec 1858 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900.

They had the following children:
i. Mittie Eudora. Born in Nov 1880 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 61, Mittie Eudora died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1942. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900. Alias/AKA: "Dora".

Mittie Eudora married William JOHNSON. Born in 1861 in Tennessee. At the age of 81, William died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1942.

v. Mary Ellen. Born in May 1894 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 92, Mary Ellen died in Tennessee in 1987. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900.

Mary Ellen married Connie G. EVANS. Born in 1892 in Tennessee. At the age of 81, Connie G. died in Tennessee in 1973.

vi. Ruby. Born in Jun 1899 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 83, Ruby died in Henderson County, Tennessee in Sep 1982. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900.

Ruby married Philip MAXWELL. Born on 12 Apr 1896 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 70, Philip died in Henderson County, Tennessee in Apr 1967.


7. Erastus C. LEWIS. Born in 1853 in Tennessee.

Erastus C. married Josephine L TODD, daughter of Wiley Wesley TODD (1833-1876) & Mary Elizabeth SPALDING (1840-1928). Born in Sep 1860 in Wildersville, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 40, Josephine L died in Muskogee, Oklahoma on 23 Apr 1901. Buried in Apr 1901 in Whitney, Texas. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870.

They had the following children:
i. Albert Dentis. Born in Oct 1886.

ii. Bessie M. Born in Dec 1889.


8. Samuel Lafayette LEWIS. Born in 1855 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 45, Samuel Lafayette died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900. Buried in 1900 in Foster Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

Samuel Lafayette married Ellen Catherine REED, daughter of Joseph REED Junior (1808-1863) & Talitha Cumin FULLER (1822-1903). Born on 3 Apr 1860 in Lone Elm, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 69, Ellen Catherine died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 25 May 1929. Buried in May 1929 in Foster Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 9, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 1, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910.
