Minerva Ann LAWS. Born on 3 Dec 1827 in Maury County, Tennessee. At the age of 86, Minerva Ann died on 1 Mar 1914. Buried in Mar 1914 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1900. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1910.

On 13 Feb 1851 when Minerva Ann was 23, she married Augustus R. TUCKER, son of Pleasant TUCKER (-1832) & Mary T. HILLIARD (1788-1870), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 11 Nov 1829 in North Carolina. At the age of 84, Augustus R. died on 29 Jan 1914. Buried in Jan 1914 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1900. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1910.

August R. Tucker was living with his mother in the 12th District, Carroll County, Tennessee, in 1850.

They had the following children:

iii. Samuel Emerson Laws. Born on 30 Sep 1855 in Tennessee. At the age of 91, Samuel Emerson Laws died on 4 Jan 1947. Buried in Jan 1947 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1900. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1910.

iv. Mordecia Alvin. Born on 10 May 1858.

v. Octava Lillian. Born on 12 Apr 1860.

Octava Lillian married Major Gilbert HOLLADAY, son of Stephen Carroll HOLLADAY (1816-1877) & Emaline M. CRIDER (1821-1898). Born on 9 Dec 1857 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Major Gilbert died in Oklahoma.

4. John Wesley LAWS. Born on 5 Feb 1831. At the age of 47, John Wesley died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 10 Mar 1878. Buried in 1878 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

On 23 Sep 1856 when John Wesley was 25, he married Susan Jane WILLIAMS, daughter of Thomas WILLIAMS (1803-1852) & Harriet BLAIR (1809-1861). Born on 19 Feb 1837. At the age of 54, Susan Jane died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 6 Feb 1892. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880.

5. Doctor George L LAWS. Born on 2 Jan 1836 in Russell County, Alabama. At the age of 71, George L died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 12 Dec 1907. Buried in 1907 in Pearson Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Occupation: Physician. Alias/AKA: "Bob".

G. L. Laws
Dr. G. L. Laws, one of the most eminent, respected and substantial physicians and surgeons of the county, is a resident of the Seventeenth District, eight miles north of Lexington. He was born in Russell County, Ala., in 1888, a son of Hiram and G. A. (Sims) Laws. The father was of English-French origin, born in 1803, in Orange County, N.C., where he resided at the time of his marriage, in 1820, immediately after which he immigrated to Carroll County, Tenn., engaging in agricultural pursuits. In 1834 or 1835, he moved to Russell County, Ala., during the Creek and Indian war. The latter part of 1835 or 1837, with his family, he fled from the State to escape the treachery and ferocity of the Indians. He returned to Carroll County, locating near Clarksburg, where he owned 200 acres of land. He died in 1879. His wife was of English descent, born in 1807, in Orange County, N.C. She was the mother of six children, four of who are living. Her death occurred in 1872. Our subject, Dr. G. L. Laws, was the fifth child; he received his literary education in the common schools of Carroll County, and the academy at Huntingdon, Tenn. When quite a young man he worked as a farmhand; at the age of twenty began teaching school, which he followed for four years, during vacation attending school. When about twenty-three years of age, he began the study of medicine under guidance of Dr. Henry McCall of Clarksburg; in 1860 he entered the medical department of Nashville University, and the following year located at Macedonia, Carroll County, where he began the practice of his profession; a year later he came to Henderson County, settling where he now resides. In November, 1863, he married a daughter of Peter and Mary Ann Pearson, Miss Mary Pearson, who was born in Henderson County in 1843, and who bore him one child, William D. Mrs. Laws died in 1867, and in 1869 he married his sister-in-law, Jemima M. Pearson, a native of the county, born in 1852; they have one child living: Joseph H. The Doctor has an extensive and lucrative practice, and is considered one of the most able physicians and surgeons in the county. He is also one of the most prosperous and successful business men; he owns 1,400 acres of valuable land, and attends to all of his real estate interests. Previous to the war the Doctor was a Whig, and is now a Republican: he cast his first vote for U. S. Grant 1868. The Doctor and Mrs. Laws are esteemed and earnest members of the Christian Church.


In Nov 1863 when George L was 27, he first married Mary Penelope PEARSON, daughter of Peter PEARSON Senior (1814-1887) & Mary Ann PRITCHARD (1820-1866). Born on 24 Aug 1843 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 23, Mary Penelope died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 6 Apr 1867. Buried in 1867 in Pearson Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in 10th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860.

They had one child:
12 i. William Dudley (1866-1915)

In 1869 when George L was 32, he second married Jemima Melvina PEARSON, daughter of Peter PEARSON Senior (1814-1887) & Mary Ann PRITCHARD (1820-1866), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 23 Sep 1852 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 71, Jemima Melvina died on 20 Jun 1924. Resided in 10th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860.

They had the following children:
i. Joseph Hiram. Born in 1875 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 66, Joseph Hiram died in 1941.

ii. Infant. Born on 14 Aug 1870 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Infant died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 14 Aug 1870. Buried in 1870 in Pearson Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.


6. Mary Elizabeth LAWS. Born on 30 Jun 1842 in Tennessee. At the age of 42, Mary Elizabeth died on 25 Nov 1884. Buried in Nov 1884 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Oma".

On 13 Nov 1867 when Mary Elizabeth was 25, she married James M. SPRINGER, son of Uriah SPRINGER (1805-) & Ruth Elizabeth BELEW (1805-1870). Born on 14 May 1843. At the age of 42, James M. died on 25 Aug 1885. Buried in Aug 1885 in Sellers Hill Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880.

Gave the land to build the Poplar Springs Church of Christ/School in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee.

They had one child:
i. Charles H.. Born in 1869 in Tennessee. Resided in 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Charlie".
