316. Joseph Raymond MURPHY Senior. Born on 16 Jul 1893 in Holladay, Benton County, Tennessee. At the age of 68, Joseph Raymond died on 14 Jul 1962. Buried in 1962 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in San Antionio, Texas. Alias/AKA: "Joe".

Graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee. Received BA Degree. Was a World War I Veteran. Was a business executive (builders hardware) of San Antonio, Texas, National President of National Builders Hardware Association.

Military: Joseph Raymond Murphy served in World War I as a First Lieutenant. He was also wounded in France.

In 1917 when Joseph Raymond was 23, he married Lucretia Bassett BARNES. Born on 14 Aug 1896 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. At the age of 88, Lucretia Bassett died in 1985.

They had the following children:

317. Marion Emerson MURPHY. Born on 4 Aug 1899 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 80, Marion Emerson died in 1980. Marion Emerson retired  as a Vice Admiral, US Navy.

Graduated from the Naval Academy in 1922. Received a BS Degree. Attended Navy Post-Graduate School in 1927-29 and Harvard Business School (Advanced Management Program in 1950. Was a naval officer - advanced to the rank of Vice Admiral. Served in World War II and Korea. Received the Legion of Merit (2), Bronze Star Medal, Commendation Ribbon, and other medals. Retired from the Navy in 1957. Was employed by Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. Was a Senior Staff Engineer. Served with the Polaris Missile System from 1957-1964. Was in the Biography of Who's Who in America, 1952-1965. Livied in retirement in San Francisco, California.

Marion Emerson married Ruth Edmund GARRISON, daughter of Harry A. GARRISON. Born on 26 Mar 1908 in Washington, D.C.

They had the following children:

ii. John Emerson. Born on 26 Jan 1932 in San Pedro, California.



318. John William MURPHY Junior. Born on 17 Dec 1903 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. John William retired from Retired as a Rear Admiral, US Navy. Education: Graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1925. Alias/AKA: "J. Will".

Received BS Degree at the Naval Academy in 1925. Attended San Diego State College during 1955-56. Served in the Navy during the period of 1925-1955. Retired in 1955 as a Rear Admiral. He was a mathematics teacher at Grossmont High School, El Cajon, California. For many years, he was a leader in the "New Math" movement.

On 7 Jan 1927 when John William was 23, he married Clara Louise PRINCE. Born on 28 Mar 1906 in El Cajon, California.

They had the following children:
708 i. Paula Elizabeth (1934-)
709 ii. Joann Gertrude (1937-)

319. Gertrude Wright MURPHY. Born on 28 Sep 1909 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in Detroit, Michigan.

Graduated in 1930 in music from Theodore Bohlman School of Music in Memphis, Tennessee.

On 3 Jun 1939 when Gertrude Wright was 29, she married Judge Andrew Chapman WOOD Senior. Born on 13 Oct 1914 in Detroit, Michigan.

Graduated from the University of Michigan and the Detroit School of Law. Served as Lieutenant, USNR, in World War II. Was a lawyer, served as a traffic judge in the City of Detroit.

They had the following children:
710 i. Andrew Chapman (1940-)
ii. Mary Helen. Born in 1947. Occupation: Teacher.

Graduated from the University of Michigan.

Mary Helen married Lieutenant Commander Dick SCHROPE.
