Family of Sarah Susan JOHNSON (33) & John Robert McKINNEY

111. Ardie Estelle McKINNEY. Born in 1868 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 66, Ardie Estelle died in 1934.

Ardie was the first woman graduate of the McLemoresville Collegiate Institute (MCI) and was the first female Carroll County Superintendent of Schools.

Ardie Estelle married William James HURDLE. Born in 1864 in Alamance County, North Carolina. At the age of 89, William James died in 1953.

They had the following children:
i. Gladys Marie. Born in 1895. At the age of 67, Gladys Marie died in 1962.

Gladys Marie married Nicholas GEORGSON. Born in 1895. At the age of 48, Nicholas died in 1943.

No children were produced from this marriage.

ii. Norma Lee. Born on 6 Jun 1897. At the age of 80, Norma Lee died in 1978. Resided in Trezevant, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1970. Occupation: Piano teacher.

Never married.

iii. Claribel. Born on 15 Jul 1899. At the age of 80, Claribel died in 1980. Resided in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1970.

Never married.

iv. Sarah Estelle. Born in 1904. Resided in Miami, Dade County, Florida in 1970.

Sarah Estelle married Charles COLEMAN. Born in 1893. At the age of 60, Charles died in 1953.

No children were produced from this marriage.

332 v. Pattie Sue (1906-1973)

112. William Luther McKINNEY. Born in 1872. At the age of 88, William Luther died in 1960. Buried in 1960 in McLemoresville Cemetery, McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Taught and was principal of McLemoresville College Institute.

Became Deputy for the Department of Internal Revenue in Memphis.

Late became Chief Deputy Clerk of Federal Court.

Retired to McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee, and served as Clerk of the local draft board and Deputy Carroll County Trustee.


William Luther married Ina Mai BILLINGS. Born in 1881. At the age of 55, Ina Mai died in 1936. Buried in 1936 in McLemoresville Cemetery, McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee.

They had one child:
i. Dorothy Alice. Born in 1908 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. At the age of 33, Dorothy Alice died in 1941. Buried in 1941 in McLemoresville Cemetery, McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee.


113. Mary Elizabeth McKINNEY. Born in 1876. At the age of 72, Mary Elizabeth died in 1948. Alias/AKA: "Mamie".

School teacher.

Mary Elizabeth married William P. WALKER. Born in 1872. At the age of 78, William P. died in 1950. Resided in Mclemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee. Occupation: Insurance salesman and grocer.

They had the following children:
333 i. Mary Sue (1905-1975)
334 ii. William Robert (1912-1969)

Lived in McLemoresville, Tennessee, and Pahokee, Florida.

114. Robert Emerson McKINNEY. Born in 1882. At the age of 80, Robert Emerson died in 1962. Buried in 1962 in McLemoresville Cemetery, McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Robert Emerson married Van Dora CARRINGTON. Born in 1882. At the age of 71, Van Dora died in 1953. Buried in 1953 in McLemoresville Cemetery, McLemoresville, Carroll County, Tennessee.

They had the following children:
i. Sarah Elizabeth. Born on 5 Oct 1907. Resided in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee in 1970.

Sarah Elizabeth married George Leo DUFFELL.

World War II Veteran. Was a floor contractor.

No children were produced from this marriage.

335 ii. John Robert (1919-)

Lived in McLemoresville where they farmed.
