Steven George Leslie was living with his Uncle and Aunt, Leroy H. Williamson and Angeline Johnson Williamson, in the 12th District, Carroll County, Tennessee, in 1860.

Obituary: Stephen G. Leslie was born in Carroll County, January 20, 1854, and died March 29th, 1926, aged 72 years, two months and nine days. When yet in his teens, he was married to Miss Tabby Beville. To the union was born two daughters, Mrs. James McCay, Milan, and Mrs. Charlie Williams, Hamilton, Ohio. The wife died soon after the birth of her second daughter. On October 16, 1872, he married Miss Ellen Pendergrass, who with three sons, Lewis, Wesley, and George, and two daughters, Mrs. A.L. Meals and Mrs. Cap Rosser, and the two daughters by the first wife, survive him. Mr. Leslie professed faith in Christ in early life, in which faith he lived until the close of the earthly career. He was a practical farmer, and by close application, earnest work and business accumulated considerable wealth. With rare good judgment he ceased his labor activities some twenty years ago, bought a home in Wildersville and moved there where he spent the remainder of his life free from the worry and vexations of the strife incident to an effort to further increase his financial holdings. He was taken sick on the 12th of March and it soon developed that his malady was appendicitis. Owing to his advanced age, it was deemed imprudent to take him to the operating table and every effort to save his life proved unavailing. Seldom has such tender solicitude been exhibited as that of his three sons and four daughters. The faithful service of his son-in-law, Cap Rosser, has never been surpassed and seldom equaled. Steve Leslie endeavored to raise his children right and their watchful care and tender service in this last hours proved that he was eminently successful herein. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.N. Jolly, Whiteville, at the home of the deceased, as the inclement weather would not permit an out-of-door exercise. It was worthy of note that in the room at the service were three sons, four daughters, three sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren. A large crowd of sympaththetic friends also gathered at the home and paid their last tribute to the departed friend. Interment followed at Parker's Crossroads cemetery after the service at the home, Rev. H. J. Burkett conducting the service at the grave. The large attendance at the cemetery was another tribute to the memory of Steve Leslie.
