Fourth Generation (Continued)

Family of Williams JOHNSON (10) & Juliet Young SALMON

32. Mary Emily JOHNSON. Born on 3 Apr 1843 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 83, Mary Emily died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 9 Apr 1926. Buried in 1926 in Jones Cemetery, Wildersville, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Obituary: At the age of eighty-three years and six days, Mrs. Mary Emily Murphy, passed to the Great Beyond in the family home near Parker's Crossroads and Wildersville, this county, at the hour of four p.m., on the 9th day of April 1926. Her malady was that dread disease, pneumonia, and her illness was brief. She was a daughter of the late William and Julia Johnson and at the age of 17 years was most happily married to Joseph W. Murphy, March 23rd, 1860. Ten children bless this union, George H. Murphy, dying, August 27th, 1872. The surviving children are Mrs. J.H. (Maggie) Davis, Chesterfield, A.J. Murphy, Hot Springs, Arkansas, J. Will Murphy, Huntingdon, Joe R. Murphy, Mrs. D.B. (Lula) Gossett, Holladay, Dr. L.D. Murphy, Buena Vista, Misses Grace and Mollie Murphy and Sam W. Murphy. Sixty years ago she joined the Baptist Church at Hamburg, Arkansas, from which place her membership was moved to Wildersville, this county, and there remained until again transferred to the Church Celestial. In all relations of life Mrs. Murphy performed well with pleasure and cheerfulness the duties which fell to her and every obligation was met without shirking, for Mrs. Murphy was one who recognized the fact that one's status in life is fixed by what one does and that after life we are only remembered by what we have done. Except through her husband, who passed away several years ago to meet the reward of a just and upright man, and through others of her loved ones, it has not been our pleasure to know Mrs. Murphy, but in those ways the love lavished upon her by those who lived closest to her. The services being the last honors that could not be paid to her in this world were conducted in the home at 1:00 p.m., on the 10th inst., Rev. Fleetwood Ball officiating, after which, in the presence of a host of sorrowing relatives and friends, the body was laid to rest in the Jones graveyard about one mile north of the home. The beautiful floral offerings gave additional evidence of the affection in which the deceased was held.
