Obituary: Funeral services for Joe H. Hood, 77, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 5, 2002 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Parvin and Rev. Wayne Rowan officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Hood died Tuesday morning at the NHC Healthcare in Milan. He was born January 1, 1925 in Carroll County, Tennessee to the late Hugh Lawton and Maude Ethel Pruett Hood. He was a World War II United States Marine Corps veteran where he served in the Japanese Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Hood retired from ITT Telecommunications and was a member of the Max Kolmes ITT Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Auditorium Sunday School Class. Mr. Hood was preceded in death by his wife, Myrle Davis Hood and a brother, Ray Hood. He is survived by a son, Mike Hood and wife Paula; two grandsons, who were his pride and joy, Andrew Ryan (Drew) Hood and William Lawton (Will) Hood all of Milan; four brothers, Richard Hood and Bryant Hood both of Milan, H. L. Hood of Lexington and Wayne Hood of Martin; one sister, Frances Cates of West Memphis, AR and two wonderful friends, Charles and Marie Fuchs of Milan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association and the Tennessee Funeral Supply Sales Club. The family requests memorials be directed to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Milan Endowment for Growth and Academics (MEGA). The family will receive friends after 4:30 PM today at the funeral home.
