Obituary: Funeral services for Mr. J. D. Gurley, 87, will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 25, 2004 from the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Boyer officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Bluff Cemetery. Mr. Gurley, a retired farmer and mechanic, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at his home. He was born in Henderson County, son of the late G. W. and Callie Autry Gurley. Mr. Gurley was educated in Madison County and was a graduate of Browns High School. He was a Mason and a member of Beech Bluff Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gurley was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Sikes Gurley in 1990; a granddaughter, Sharon Gurley and a grandson, Bobby Jones. Survivors include a daughter, Lessena and husband Jerry Davidson of Jackson; two sons, Billy and wife Marjorie Gurley and Aubrey and wife Vicky Gurley all of Beech Bluff; a sister, Estelle Holland of Medon; a brother, Paul Gurley of Jackson; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be deacons of Beech Bluff Baptist Church and friends. Any memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, May 24, 2004 at the funeral home. J. D. married Ruth SIKES. Ruth died in 1990. They had the following children:
