251. Mignon MURPHY. Mignon Murphy Edwards' career in basketball began at Clarksburg and was capped by an outstanding high school career as a forward. She served as team captain for two years and set numerous scoring records during her career including one game with Bruceton where she alone outscored the entire Bruceton team by scoring 39 points. She averaged 29 points per game in her career. Her skills were rewarded by being named to All-District, All-Region, and All-State teams. Upon graduation from Clarksburg in 1955, she was awarded a scholarship to play for the prestigious Nashville Business College team. She now resides in Huntingdon, Tennessee. Mignon married Jerry Glenn EDWARDS, son of Malcolm EDWARDS (1906-1980) & Euba GOOCH (1909-1989). Born on 5 Sep 1933 in Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 65, Jerry Glenn died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 28 Mar 1999. Buried on 30 Mar 1999 in Memorial Gardens, Carroll County, Tennessee. Religion: Yuma Missionary Baptist Church., Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee. Obituary: Jerry Glenn Edwards, 65, of Huntingdon, died Sunday, March 28, at his home. Services were held on Tuesday, March 30, at Dilday Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Carroll County Memorial Gardens. Brothers Bill Goodpasture and Billy Gooch officiated the services. Pallbearers who served were Barry Murphy, Donnie Hall, Tommy Barksdale, James Rodgers, Willard Sullivan and Randy Crider. Honorary pallbearers were Glendon Rich, Frankie Smith, Johnny Daube, Glenn Morgan, Kenny Peterson, Billy Tines and Randy Crider. Mr. Edwards, the son of Malcolm and Euba Gooch Edwards, was born in Carroll County, on September 5, 1933. He was a retired mill operator and Norandal USA in Huntingdon and a member of the Yuma Missionary Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Migon Edwards; two sons, Robert Edwards of Paris and Burton Edwards of Huntingdon; two sisters, Betty Rodgers and Mary Ann Samara, both of Bruceton; three brothers, Mack Edwards of Nashville, Bobby Ray Edwards and Sammy Edwards, both of Yuma; and two grandchildren, Allison Edwards and Payten Plunk.
