362. Arthur J. STEGALL Junior. Born on 10 Jul 1924 in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee. At the age of 79, Arthur J. died in Scottsdale, Arizona on 5 Jun 2004.

A remarkable father and businessman. Passed away on June 5, 2004 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 10, 1924 in Jackson, Tennessee to a family with a long American Heritage. Arthur was extremely proud to be a direct descendant of Thomas Nelson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. While attending college, he volunteered to serve his country in World War II and joined the Navy in 1941 as an Apprentice Seaman. He was Honorably Discharged a Captain of an LCT with the rank of Lieutenant (jg). He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Business Administration and went on to earn his Masters Degree in Business from New York University. He came to Phoenix in 1956 and co-founded a ranch and diversified real estate company called Lawrence and Stegall Ranches. He sold his company in 1965. The company eventually became AZL Resources and was listed on the American Stock Exchange. Arthur then started Stegall & Son Ranch Company as President and sole owner which later became Stegall Company Ltd. Partnership. In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Arthur served on many Boards here in the Valley and around the country. Several included the University Board and the Law School Board of Visitors of Pepperdine University, the College Cabinet and the Chancellor's Council of Vanderbilt University. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Harrington Arthritis Foundation, Hospice of the Valley, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Arizona Opera and is a Member of the Valley Presbyterian Church. Arthur was a distinguished gentleman. He loved to travel with family and friends, and as an avid photographer, was known for photo albums he compiled for the group after every trip. Southwestern art was another love which deeply influenced his life. Arthur was hugely tenacious and persistent in all aspects of his life, including his triumphant battle with cancer. Arthur is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Burdette; son, A. John Stegall III; son-in-law, Keith Burdette; daughter-in-law, Daryl Stegall; three grandchildren, Jack Stegall (Arthur John Stegall IV), Sam Stegall and Emma Burdette. Arthur, a true southern gentleman, was a compassionate father, grandfather, extraordinary businessman and great story teller. His life will be celebrated and remembered forever. The viewing will be held on Friday, June 11, 2004 between 5 and 7 p.m. at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, AZ. A service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2004 at the Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley.
