22. James Leonard DOUGLAS. Born in 1837 in Tennessee. Resided in 7th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in 8th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Jim".

In 1858 when James Leonard was 21, he married Mary Ellen ?. Born on 29 Jul 1840 in Tennessee. At the age of 88, Mary Ellen died in Juno, Henderson County, Tennessee on 19 Dec 1928. Resided in 7th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in 8th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Ellen".

Obituary: In Loving Memory: Mrs. Mary Ellen Douglas was born July 29, 1840, and died December 19, 1928, aged eighty-eight years, at her home in Juno. She was united in marriage to the late Jim Leonard Douglas in 1858. To this union were born six children, four of whom preceded her to the grave the deceased being J.W. Douglas, Mrs. Nancy Hemphill, Mrs. Mattie Wilson and Miss Dora Douglas. The two who remain to mourn her death are Miss Mag Douglas, Juno, and Mrs. Emma Johnson, Jackson.

They had the following children:

v. Unknown. Born on 8 Apr 1874. Unknown died on 8 Apr 1874. Buried in Apr 1874 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

vi. Maggie L.. Born in 1880 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 58, Maggie L. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 3 Jan 1938. Buried in Jan 1938 in Antioch Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Juno, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1929.

Never married.

Obituary: Miss Maggie Douglas, 58 years of age, died January 3, 1938. She was the daughter of J.L. and Ellen Douglas, deceased. She is survived by the following nephews and nieces: Miss Zula Hemphill, Milan, Miss Zelma Hemphill, Kansas City, Missouri; Claude and Miss Willie Mae Douglas, Memphis; Sam McClerkin and Mrs. R.H. Whittle, Browns Church Community, and George Wilson of this county. Revs. R.F. Blankenship and J.R. Page conducted the funeral services at Antioch with burial in the nearby cemetery.

23. Susan L. DOUGLAS. Born in 1840 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, Susan L. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 15 Jan 1922. Buried in Jan 1922 in Waller-Douglas Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in 7th District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Susie".

Obituary: Mrs. Susie Carrington, widow of the late S.T. Carrington, died last Sunday afternoon at 6:00 in the home of her brother, Esq. W.A. Douglass, in the old 8th District. Mrs. Carrington had reached the great age of 82. She leaves two children, Mrs. Jennie Clements, now of Memphis, and Mrs. Susie Taylor, Dickson. Her maiden name was Douglass, being a daughter of the Esq. Abel Douglas, this county, who died many years ago. She first married Dr. Giles Waller, Juno; she next married Jerry White of the old 8th District and her last husband was S.T. Carrington. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood and those who knew her tell us that she was more than an extra woman in all the relations of life. The funeral occurred Monday, with interment in the Waller graveyard near Juno by the side of her first husband.

Susan L. first married Doctor Giles WALLER, son of Lieutentant Amos Johnston WALLER & Esther WESTON (1802-1879). Born in 1823 in Duplin County, North Carolina. At the age of 62, Giles died in Henderson County, Tennessee in Nov 1885. Buried in Nov 1885 in Waller-Douglas Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

iii. William J.. Born on 4 Jan 1870 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 76, William J. died on 11 Mar 1946.


Susan L. second married Jeremiah WHITE, son of Captain James M. WHITE Senior (1792-1852) & Penelope ? (1795-1866). Born on 8 Oct 1822 in North Carolina. At the age of 69, Jeremiah died in Tennessee on 1 Apr 1892. Buried in Apr 1892 in White Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Lanesboro, Anson County, North Carolina in 1850. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 8, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 8, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Jerry".

On 3 May 1904 when Susan L. was 64, she third married Nathaniel Robert CARRINGTON, son of Alfred CARRINGTON (1798-1846) & Sarah HALL (1801-1867), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 18 Jun 1822 in North Carolina. At the age of 93, Nathaniel Robert died on 17 Aug 1915. Resided in North Division, Marshall County, Mississippi in 1850.

Nathaniel Carrington returned to Tennessee after the death of and married Mollie Watkins Lindeman, a widow. After Mollie's death he married to Susan Douglas White, daughter of Mollie died he married a third time to Susan Douglas White, daughter of William Abel Douglas. After his death, Susan return to Henderson County, Tennessee and lived with her brother.

Nathaniel patented the first cotton planter and scraper in the United States.


Nathaniel moved with his family to Marshall County, Mississippi, in about 1841.

24. William Alexander DOUGLAS. Born on 18 Mar 1843 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 87, William Alexander died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 26 Oct 1930. Buried in Oct 1930 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 8, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in 1st District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910.

William A. Douglas, Jr. served with Company A, 7th Tennessee United States Cavalry. His unit was captured by Forrest Cavalry forces at Union City, Tennessee. He was imprisoned at Andersonville Prison, Georgia for
nine months.

He served as a County magistrate, farmed, and had a grocery business.

William Alexander married Matilda Harriet ADAMS, daughter of Dock Fordlock ADAMS (1825-1908) & Fredonia Tennessee Carolina WHITE (1827-1917). Born on 12 Sep 1852 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 64, Matilda Harriet died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 19 Jul 1917. Buried in Jul 1917 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 8, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in 1st District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910. Alias/AKA: "Harriet".

They had the following children:

ii. Addie Lee. Born on 24 Sep 1875 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 24, Addie Lee died on 5 May 1900. Buried in May 1900 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Addie Douglas died young.

iv. Edgar D.. Born in 1881. At the age of 92, Edgar D. died in 1973. Buried in 1973 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

75 v. Maggie (1884-1979)
vi. Carrie. Born on 1 Apr 1891 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 26, Carrie died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 22 Jun 1917. Buried in Jun 1917 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in 1st District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910.

Obituary: The Death Angel with his mighty reaper flew into our midst on June 22, 1917, and took for his victim the beloved daughter of W. A. Douglas and wife of Wildersville. Carrie was born April 1, 1891, and departed this life June 22, 1917, aged 26 years. Carrie had been ill for some time, yet her death was unexpected and came as a shock to the community. About a week before she died she was taken with typhoid fever which soon ended her life. She leaves an aged father and mother, two brothers and one sister. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and united with the Methodist Church at Rock Springs where she remained a true and faithful member until the end. She was laid to rest in the Rock Springs Cemetery, services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Guthrie. To the bereaved family we would say, weep not for Carrie, our loss is her eternal gain.

vii. Clara L.. Born on 30 Apr 1893 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 24, Clara L. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 22 Jun 1917. Buried in Jun 1917 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.


25. Frances Ellen DOUGLAS. Born on 10 Apr 1848 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 78, Frances Ellen died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 30 Nov 1926. Buried in Nov 1926 in Prospect Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1900. Resided in District 1, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910. Resided in District 1, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1920.

Frances Ellen Douglas Fesmire was living with her daughter, Nancy Margaret Fesmire McDaniel, in the 17 District, Henderson County, Tennessee, during the 1900 Census.

Obituary: In memory of my grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Fesmire, who died November 29, 1926, aged 78 years, 3 months and 9 days. She had two boys, Tom and John Fesmire, and three girls, Tommy, Mollie and Margaret. The girls and her beloved husband have been dead for many years. She left a host of grandchildren. God had called for her and she had to go. We hated to give her up. --Louise Fesmire.

Frances Ellen Fesmire was born April 10, 1848, and died November 30th, 1926, aged 78 years. She was married to Wesley Fesmire at the age of 16. To this union were born three girls and two boys with only Thomas and John Witt surviving. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago. "Aunt Ellen, " as she was familiarly called, has been cared for by her grandson, Josephus Fesmire. He with his wife and sister, Florence Fesmire, have cared for her with such a tender care and watchfulness that it has brought to them the favors of neighbors. We will all miss Aunt Ellen. Funeral services were conducted at Prospect Church by Rev. Yates Moore.

In 1865 when Frances Ellen was 16, she married John Wesley FESMIRE, son of Thomas Elijah FESMIRE Senior (1820-1886) & Malona Margaret DUNN (1827-1857). Born on 8 Mar 1843 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 48, John Wesley died in Henderson County, Tennessee in Feb 1892. Buried in Feb 1892 in Prospect Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

Military: John Wesley served in the 27th Tennessee Infantry Regiment (CS) and later, Wilson's 21st Cavalry Regiment (CS).

They had the following children:

ii. Mary. Born in 1868 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Alias/AKA: "Mollie".
