Family of Walter Sidney BUTLER Senior (155) & Mable GILES

239. Martha Sue BUTLER. Born on 8 Nov 1910 in Tennessee. At the age of 53, Martha Sue died in St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio on 29 Apr 1964. Buried on 2 May 1964 in Memorial Gardens, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 11, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Martha Sue married Harris Haywood COLEMAN. Harris Haywood died in Lorain, Ohio in 1960.

They had the following children:
i. Walter William. Born on 19 Oct 1942 in Carroll County, Tennessee.

ii. Mary Ann.

iii. James Harris.


240. Mary J. BUTLER. Born on 28 Feb 1914 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 90, Mary J. died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 21 Apr 2004. Buried in Apr 2004 in Liberty All Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 11, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Obituary: HUNTINGDON: Mrs. Mary Butler Carter, 90, died on Wednesday, April 21 at the Huntingdon Health & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dossie F. Wheatley and Dr. Paul Mullikin officiating. Interment followed in Liberty All Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was born February 28, 1914 in Huntingdon to the late Walter Sidney and Mable Giles Butler. He was a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church and a retired clerk for H.L. Carter & Sons. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim Butler, Harry Butler, Walter S. Butler, Jr., and Roy Butler and two sisters, Martha Sue Coleman and Eleanor Butler. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Mr. John David Carter; two sons, Joe Morris Carter of Frisco, Texas and Johnny Carter of Germantown; one sister, Lucy Hines of Huntingdon and four grandchildren. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary J. married John David CARTER Senior, son of Ernest Grant CARTER (1878-1969) & Alice Susan DARNALL (1883-1968). Born on 2 Dec 1914.

They had the following children:
i. Joe Morris.

ii. John David.


241. Lucy BUTLER. Born in 1915 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 11, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

In 1944 when Lucy was 29, she married Damon HINES, in Carroll County, Tennessee.

They had one child:
i. Katherine.


242. Harry G. BUTLER. Born on 30 Apr 1918 in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 79, Harry G. died on 23 Jun 1997. Buried on 25 Jun 1997 in Liberty All Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 11, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Harry G. married Sara LEE.

They had the following children:
i. Walter.

ii. Harry Lee.


243. Roy Giles BUTLER Senior. Born on 13 Oct 1923 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 76, Roy Giles died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 22 Sep 2000. Resided in District 11, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1930.

Roy Giles married Betty HIGDON, daughter of Edgar HIGDON & Bess HALL. Born on 27 Sep 1933 in Benton County, Tennessee. At the age of 72, Betty died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 28 Jul 2006. Buried on 31 Jul 2006 in Liberty All Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: HUNTINGDON: Betty Higdon Butler, 72, died Friday, July 28, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, July 31, 11 a.m. at Huntingdon First Baptist Church with Bro. Fred Ward officiating. Burial followed in Liberty All Cemetery. Mrs. Butler was born September 27, 1933 to the late Edgar and Bess Hall Higdon in Benton County. She was the Administrative Assistant for her son, Dr. Roy Butler, a graduate of UT Knoxville, a teacher for the Huntingdon Special School District and the Central High School. She was actively involved in the community having served on various committees: Past President of the Home Economists and Homemakers Association; Chairman of the Beautification Committee, Huntingdon Garden Club, Booklovers Club, Seniors Woman's Club, an usher at the Dixie, a member of the Huntingdon Citizens Advisory Council and the Carroll County Federation and Republican Women. She was a member of the Huntingdon First Baptist Church where she served in various capacities: Sunday School teacher, the Building Committee, and the Drama Club. Mrs. Butler was also a Carroll County Extension Agent and very active in several political campaigns. Survivors include: one daughter, Miriam B. Nelson of Martinez, Georgia; one son, Dr. Roy Butler of Nashville; one brother, John Stanley Higdon of Bruceton; and two grandchildren. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


They had the following children:
i. Roy.

ii. Miriam B.. Resided in Martinez, Georgia in Aug 2006.
