Family of John Daniel MEALS (131) & Nancy Mariah LITTLEPAGE Obituary: Mrs. J.L. Gurley, who was a Meals (daughter of J.D. and N.M. Meals) before her marriage, died last Friday near the old Sweet Store and the Henderson-Madison line and was carried through Lexington Saturday morning to be buried at Liberty Church, Carroll County. Cause of Death: Died in childbirth. On 9 Dec 1923 when William Floy was 22, she married Jesse Lemonds GURLEY, son of James Newton GURLEY (1870-1951) & Catherine STRATTON (1877-1963), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 1 Jan 1899. Buried in Independence Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. They had the following children:
189. Mamie Lois MEALS. Born on 16 Apr 1902 in Hamilton County, Texas. Mamie Lois died in Carroll County, Tennessee. Buried in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. On 3 Dec 1922 when Mamie Lois was 20, she married Luther Vincent GURLEY, son of Vinson Ross GURLEY (1867-1954) & Sara Jane ALEXANDER (1870-1938). Born on 15 Dec 1894. At the age of 84, Luther Vincent died on 14 Oct 1979. Buried in Oct 1979 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in First District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1930. They had the following children:

Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gurley will be honored with an open house at their home on the old Jackson-Clarksburg Road on Sunday, December 3rd, to celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of their wedding. The open house will be hosted by their children and their wives and husbands, who are Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gurley and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gurley of Clarksburg; Rev. and Mrs. Marshall Gurley and Mr. and Mrs. James Gurley of Memphis and Mr. and Mrs. James Snider, Jr. of Bruceton. Friends and relatives are invited to attend between the hours of 2 to 4:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Gurley were married on December 3rd, 1922 by the late T.M. Boyd at the home of the bride's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Meals of Carroll County. 190. Jessie Anna MEALS. Born on 28 Oct 1903 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Buried in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. On 14 Nov 1923 when Jessie Anna was 20, she married Homer WILLIAMSON, son of Johnnie Wesley WILLIAMSON (1876-1961) & Lucetta COLLINS (1866-1936), in Carroll County, Tennessee. Born on 13 Oct 1902. At the age of 57, Homer died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 9 Aug 1960. Buried in 1960 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. They had the following children:
191. William Joseph MEALS. Born on 12 Mar 1905 in Paris, Logan County, Arkansas. At the age of 77, William Joseph died in 1983. Buried in Hickory Flat Cemetery, Cedar Grove, Carroll County, Tennessee. On 26 Feb 1926 when William Joseph was 20, he married Fronia May RAINEY, daughter of James Robert RAINEY (1865-1924) & Sophia Elizabeth Beth WESTERN (1874-1951). Born on 14 May 1910 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 84, Fronia May died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 14 Aug 1994. 192. Johnnie Sidney MEALS. Born on 5 Aug 1909 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 60, Johnnie Sidney died in Medina, Gi bson County, Tennessee on 19 Apr 1970. Obituary: Funeral services for Johnnie Sidney Meals, 60, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Griffin Funeral Home with the Rev. H. V. Hodge and the Rev. Harry Garland officiating. Mr. Meals was killed Monday night at his home in Medina when a TV antenna he was installing came in contact with high voltage wires. He was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority and was a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Meals was born in Carroll County and attended the schools there. He came to Jackson as a young man and spent most of his life in Madison County. He is the son of the late William Joseph (Daniel) and Nancy LittlePage Meals. Survivors other than his widow are: two sons, Delton Meals and Gaylon Meals, both of Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Walker, Jackson and Miss Penny Rose Meals, Route 1 Medina; two step children, Johnny Crafton and Sue Crafton, Route 1, Medina; one brother, Billy Meals, Huntingdon; four sisters, Mrs. Lois Gurley and Mrs. Jessie Williamson, both of Huntingdon, Mrs. Delia Newman, Jackson, and Mrs Mary Grisham, Spring Creek, and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers are: Charlie Meals, Larry Cochran, Jerry Newman, Marshall Gurley, John Daniel Williamson and James Gurley. Johnnie Sidney first married Minnie Ola TYLER. They had the following children:

Resided in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee in May 2005. On 5 Jan 1938 when Della Elizabeth was 24, she married Fred Newton NEWMAN, son of John Berton NEWMAN & Sena ETHRIDGE. Born in 1911 in Reagan, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 93, Fred Newton died in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee on 13 Feb 2004. Buried on 15 Feb 2004 in Latham's Chapel Cemetery, Medina, Gibson County, Tennessee. Obituary: Funeral Services for Fred Newman, 93, will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2004 in the Chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Latch and Rev. Marshal Gurley officiating. Burial will follow in Latham's Chapel Cemetery near Medina. Mr. Newman died early Friday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Reagan, TN, son of the late John Berton and Sena Ethridge Newman and moved to Madison County with his family as a young man. In earlier years he was a farmer and also worked for the old Hicksville Gin Company. He was later an employee of Piggly Wiggly Co., where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Newman was an active member of North Jackson Baptist Church, where he taught a junior boys Sunday School class for many years. He was also a former member of the choir. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Della Meals Newman, to whom he was married in 1938; his children, Jerry Newman and wife Judy of Jackson, Brenda Coleman and husband Charlie of Lavinia; a foster daughter, Sue Williams of Jackson; a brother-in-law, Horace Armstrong and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Newman, both of Jackson; four grandchildren, Michael Newman and wife Linda and Randy Newman and wife Mary, all of Cedar grove, Tim Coleman and Jon Coleman, both of Lavinia; two step-grandchildren, Walt Bedwell and wife Cathy of Jackson and Stacey Bedwell of Clarksville; four great grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Hunter and Ashley Newman and three step-great grandchildren, Matthew Huff, Jordan Reeder and Jacob Bedwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elvie Newman, Mary Armstrong and Estelee Nance and three brothers, Woodie, Alton and Tommie Newman. Pallbearers will be Mike Newman, Randy Newman, Kenneth Newman, Justin Newman, Hunter Newman, Brandon Newman, Ashley Newman, Jon Coleman, Tim Coleman, Ronald Walker and Larry Cochran.
