Obituary: Mrs. Polly Douglas, aged 60 or more, wife of Joe Douglas, died Monday at her home at Rock Springs in the old 8th District. Burial was at Rock Springs. She is survived by her husband and two married children. Deceased was a sister of Bob Coffman, a well-known citizen of that section of the county. In 1888 when Mary A. was 18, she married Joseph C. DOUGLAS, son of Archibald Young DOUGLAS (1820-1910) & Martha Jane MORROW (1826-1871). Born on 5 Aug 1862 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, Joseph C. died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 25 Dec 1944. Buried in Dec 1944 in Rock Springs Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in 1st District, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910. Alias/AKA: "Joe". They had the following children:
147. Joseph Thomas COFFMAN. Born on 23 Aug 1871 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 83, Joseph Thomas died in Milan, Gibson County, Tennessee on 23 Nov 1954. Buried in 1954 in Coffman Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Joe". Tenessee State News: Coffman Closely Watched: The Henry County jail holds a prisoner who is causing the officials some uneasiness and who is the object of close watch. Joe Coffman, a well known man of Henderson County, was recently placed in jail at Paris for safe keeping by order of the Court, it being apprehended that an effort to release him would be made by his friends. He is charged with the deliberate murder of an old neighbor who was known to have money about his house, but definite suspicion was fixed on Coffman for a year after the crime, when he began to show an unusual amount of money and talk recklessly about the crime. He was placed in jail and bail denied him after indictment by the grand jury. The Coffman Case: The Joe Coffman case continues to occupy the time and attention of the Circuit Court. It will be remembered by the readers of the Progress that on the night of August 6, 1902, at his home in the old 8th District of the county, Silas Douglas, who has lived the life of a hermit for years, and reputed to have amassed several hundred dollars in cash, which he habitually carried on his person, was shot by an unknown assasin, his brains knocked out and the pocket carrying his money cut from his person and the money appropriated. The murder was committed for the purpose of the robbery, the murdered man being a quiet, peaceable man whose only offense was that he had acquired more money than his neighbors. The Progress always true to the interest of its readers, in the next issue, will tell them as to the verdict in the Joe Coffman case, in a great many respects themost noted over in the county. [See Progress January 31, 1913]. In 1895 when Joseph Thomas was 23, he married Willie LESLIE, daughter of Stephen George LESLIE (1854-1926) & Mallisie Ellen PENDERGRASS (1856-1932). Born in 1878 in Tennessee. At the age of 34, Willie died in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee on 9 Feb 1912. Buried in 1912 in Coffman Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.
