13. Joseph FORBESS. Born on 4 Aug 1903 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 62, Joseph died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 9 Aug 1965. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920. Alias/AKA: "Joe".

On 28 Nov 1936 when Joseph was 33, he married Lucy ARNOLD.

They had one child:
i. James Porter. Born in Nov 1945.


14. Mabel Gertrude FORBESS. Born on 15 Apr 1905 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 18, Mabel Gertrude died on 15 Jan 1924. Buried in Jan 1924 in Palmer Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920.

On 16 Jul 1922 when Mabel Gertrude was 17, she married Otha Lee HOLLADAY, son of Lucian Van HOLLADAY (1860-1930) & Annie Elizabeth PETTY (1878-1965). Born in 1903. At the age of 63, Otha Lee died in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee on 6 Jun 1966. Alias/AKA: "Pete".

They had one child:
i. Robert Lee. Born on 3 Jun 1923. Robert Lee died on 3 Jun 1923. Buried in Jun 1923 in Palmer Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee.


15. James Otha FORBESS. Born on 2 Jan 1907 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Buried in Palmer Shelter Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920.

In 1939 when James Otha was 31, he married Zelma A. SMITH, daughter of Samuel Franklin SMITH (1874-1960) & Minnie E. MORGAN (1874-1936). Born on 22 Mar 1911 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 78, Zelma A. died on 8 Mar 1990.

They had the following children:
i. Donald. Born on 6 Feb 1940.

ii. James Dale.

iii. Brenda kay.


16. Inus F. FORBES. Born on 10 May 1911 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 33, Inus F. died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1945. Buried in 1945 in Palmer's Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920.

Inus F. married Horace Ray BATES, son of Joseph T. BATES (1878-1973) & Bessie D. PHILLIPS (1885-1936). Born on 30 Aug 1913 in Tennessee. At the age of 29, Horace Ray died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 12 Aug 1943. Buried in Aug 1943 in Palmer's Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee.

17. William Ray FORBES. Born on 31 Mar 1916 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 87, William Ray died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 17 Jan 2004. Buried on 19 Jan 2004 in Palmer Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in District 12, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1920.

Obituary: Mr. Ray Forbes, 87, of Huntingdon, died Saturday, January 17, 2004. Chase Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and visitation will be held from four p.m. until eight p.m. on Monday. Services will be held in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in Palmer Shelter Cemetery. Pallbearers who will serve are Wayne Kirk, Jim Forbes, David Kirk, Jimmy Kirk, Ryan Forbes, and Adam Maddox. Mr. Ray Forbes was born March 31, 1916 to the late Pearlie Ann (Laycook) Forbes and James Arthur Forbes in Carroll County. He graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1935 and married JoIna Kirk February 8, 1942. He served as mailman 2nd class in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946. In 1953, Mr. Forbes graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He also earned a Master of Arts Degree from Memphis State University in 1956. Mr. Forbes was a long time member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school classes for many years, first in Camden, Tennessee and then in Huntingdon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1948 serving in many capacities including Master of the Lodge. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and received the Honor Degree of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor with the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in 1982. In addition, he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and has served in the important post of Worthy Patron with both the Camden and Huntingdon Chapters. Mr. Forbes was a member of many civic and fraternal organizations. He was employed as Environmentalist with the Carroll County Office of the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment where he served with dedication for 42 years and for many years as County Director. Mr. Forbes was past president of the Tennessee Public Health Association and retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, JoIna (Kirk) Forbes; one son, William Larry Forbes (Betty) of Huntingdon. He also leaves two grandchildren, Angie Maddox (Matt) of Huntingdon, William Ryan Forbes of Burns, Tennessee, and three great grandsons, Adam Maddox, Ethan Maddox, and Kirk Maddox all of Huntingdon.



Obituary: HUNTINGDON: Mr. Ray Forbes, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 17 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William P. Bailey Jr., Dr. Paul Mullikin and Bro. Dosie Wheatley officiating. Interment followed in the Palmer Shelter Cemetery. Pallbearers who served were Wayne Kirk, Jim Forbes, David Kirk, Jimmy Kirk, Ryan Forbes and Adam Maddox. On 8 Feb 1942 when William Ray was 25, he married Jo Ina KIRK, daughter of Joseph Newton KIRK (1899-1977) & Lou Mamie VICKERS (1900-1982). Born on 17 Sep 1921 in Carroll County, Tennessee. At the age of 84, Jo Ina died in Nov 2005. Buried on 8 Nov 2005 in Palmer Shelter Cemetery, Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: HUNTINGDON: Services for Jo Ina Forbess, 84, will be held Monday, November 8, 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home with Rev. Dossie Wheatley, Dr. Paul Mullikin and Dr. William P. Bailey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Palmer Shelter Cemetery. Survivors include one son, Larry Forbess of Huntingdon; one brother, Wayne Vickers Kirk of Lavinia; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Obituary: HUNTINGDON: Jo Ina Forbess, 84, died Friday, November 25, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Services were conducted November 28 in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Palmer Shelter Cemetery. Rev. Dosie Wheatley, Dr. Paul Mullikin, and Dr. William P. Bailey, Jr. officiated the service. Mrs. Forbess was born September 17, 1921, in Carroll County, to the late Joseph Newton Kirk and Lou Manie (Vickers) Kirk. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Forbess, who died January 18, 2004, and one brother, Harold Kirk. She was a tired nurse's assistant for the Carroll County Hospital, and a member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church, the afternoon circle group, and the Eastern Star chapter #180. She is survived by one son, Larry (Betty) Forbess of Huntingdon; one brother, Wayne (Lynn) Vickers Kirk of Lavinia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
