About 1897 when Susan Elizabeth was 18, she married James Jackson HAYS, son of John Crockett HAYS & Minerva RENFROE. Born on 16 Apr 1860 in Tennessee. At the age of 69, James Jackson died in Senath, Dunklin County, Missouri on 7 Feb 1930. Alias/AKA: "Jim Jack". Jim Jack Hays was blind and it was said he was genetically predisposed to nerve damage in his eyes through his mother's line. He lost his eyesight in his early twenties and is remembered whittling and whistling. He also caned chair bottoms but the family relied heavily on money Susie earned as a farm worker. The family moved to Missouri before World War I where work was more plentiful. They had the following children:
7. Jess E. BOWMAN. Born on 28 Dec 1879 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 81, Jess E. died in Senath, Dunklin County, Missouri on 22 Jun 1961. Buried in Jun 1961 in McGrew Cemetery, Dunklin County, Missouri. Occupation: Farmer. Jess Bowman moved to Portageville, Missouri, in 1922. On 16 Aug 1900 when Jess E. was 20, he first married Ella Jane JOHNSON, daughter of Andrew JOHNSON & Julia LOCKHART, in Decatur County, Tennessee. Born on 2 Jun 1875. At the age of 61, Ella Jane died on 23 Aug 1936. Buried in Aug 1936 in McGrew Cemetery, Dunklin County, Missouri. Ella Jane Johnson died of heart disease. Ella has always been described as kind, gentle and gracious. It has been reported she made the best tea cakes ever made. After she was married and had children, a tumor developed behind her right eye which caused the eye to swell and burst leaving her blind in that eye. They had the following children:
Jess E. second married Iva CARNES. 8. Amanda BOWMAN. Born on 23 May 1883. At the age of 65, Amanda died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 10 Apr 1949. Buried in Parkers Crossroads Cemetery, Parkers Crossroads, Henderson County, Tennessee. Occupation: Homemaker. Amanda Bowman Meggs provided midwife services to the community. On 7 Oct 1902 when Amanda was 19, she married Reverend John Ervin MEGGS, son of James Isaac MEGGS (1849-1929) & Mary Ann KEEN (1853-1934), in Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 26 Jul 1880 in Decatur County, Tennessee. At the age of 81, John Ervin died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 31 Jan 1962. Buried in Feb 1962 in Parkers Crossroads Cemetery, Parkers Crossroads, Henderson County, Tennessee. Occupation: Farmer. Religion: Pentecostal Preacher. They had the following children:

Buried in Nov 1948 in McGrew Cemetery, Dunklin County, Missouri. On 9 Feb 1906 when Elijah Louis was 20, he married Lizzie BROCK, in Darden, Henderson County, Tennessee.
