Opal BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 12 Jul 1912 in Scotts Hill, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 89, Opal died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 8 Mar 2002. Buried on 10 Mar 2002 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Cedar Grove, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1999.

Obituary: Funeral services for Opal Bartholomew Jowers Wall, age 89, will be held Today, March 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Bro. Jason Russell and Bro. Mike McKee will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Mama Wall died Friday, March 8, 2002 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, TN. She was the widow of Elbert Jowers and Vernice Wall. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Lillie Bartholomew. She was born at Scotts Hill, Tennessee on July 12, 1912 and was reared in Henderson and Decatur County. Under the preaching of Bro. Fleetwood Ball at the age of fourteen, she was saved from grace. Mrs. Wall is survived by one son, Bobby E. Jowers of Clarksburg and one daughter, Marie Stanfill of Lexington; five grandchildren, Steve Stanfill, Bobby M. Jowers, Anna Marie Cary and Linda Robinson; twelve great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Mack Bartholomew of Huntingdon, Farris Bartholomew of Clarksburg; three sisters, Irene James of Huron, Alma Lee Halters of Wildersville and Imogene Blackwell of Cedar Grove. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Dabbs; six brothers, Aaron, Coy, Oakley, Woodrow, Paul and Fay Bartholomew. Pallbearers to serve will be Steve Stanfill, Jimmy Stanfill, Bobby M. Jowers, Brent Stanfill, Jeff Stanfill, Bennie Cary and Jason Bunch.

Opal first married Elbert J JOWERS, son of William T. JOWERS (1882-1961) & Daisy Mae JOWERS (1884-1974). Born in 1910 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 29, Elbert J died in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee on 1 Dec 1939. Buried in Dec 1939 in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Dies in Jackson: News of the sudden and tragic death of Elbert E. Jowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will T. Jowers of Lexington, which occurred in Jackson on Thursday morning of last week, came as a terrific shock. He was 27 years old and was living in Jackson and was employee of the State Highway Department. He is survived by his wife, two small children, his parents and three brothers, Parker, Delver, and Alex, and one sister, all of Lexington. Rev. Simpson Daniel, assisted by Rev. Fleetwood Ball, conducted the funeral services at the First Baptist Church.

Opal second married Vernice WALL, son of Luther WALL (1883-1943) & Elizabeth PENDERGRASS (1882-1914). Born on 25 Mar 1910. At the age of 77, Vernice died in 7th Civil District, Carroll County, Tennessee on 29 Dec 1987. Buried in 1987 in Lexington Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

7. Woodrow Wilson BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 17 Mar 1914 in Scotts Hill, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 65, Woodrow Wilson died in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee on 7 May 1979. Buried in May 1979 in Poplar Corner Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Bargerton, Henderson County, Tennessee.

On 26 Nov 1933 when Woodrow Wilson was 19, he married Stella Mae HENSLEY, daughter of General Lewis HENSLEY & Zana Belle MILLER, in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Born on 5 Jul 1913 in Decatur County, Tennessee. At the age of 82, Stella Mae died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 30 Sep 1995. Buried in Oct 1995 in Poplar Corner Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

ii. Billy Joe. Born on 30 Nov 1937 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in Ledbetter, Kentucky in Nov 2002. Resided in Henderson County, Tennessee in Feb 2004.

Billy Joe married Patricia BOYD.


8. Paul Haywood BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 20 Dec 1915. At the age of 68, Paul Haywood died in 1984. Buried in 1984 in Clarksburg Cemetery, Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee. Occupation: Restaurant Manager. Religion: Independent Missionary Baptist.

Military: Paul Bartholomew served in the navy in World War II.

Paul and his wife, Marion, were the proprietors of "Paul's Place", a local restaurant in Clarksburg, Carroll County, Tennessee, from 1964 until his death in 1984. It was a popular meeting place for the young and the old alike and is fondly remembered by all. His hamburger steaks were outstanding and fountain cokes will never be forgotten by those who had the opportunity to experience them.

Paul was a member and deacon of the New Liberty Independent Baptist Church and later transferred his membership and deaconship to Clarksburg Independent Baptist Church.

Paul Haywood married Marion WALL, daughter of Benjamin H. WALL (1888-1950) & Blanche JOHNSON (1894-1925). Born on 12 Aug 1923.

They had the following children:

iii. Paulette.

iv. Annette.

Annette married Ricky BLANKENSHIP, son of Carlos BLANKENSHIP Junior & Edna Faye McDANIEL (1933-). Born in 1957.


Paul and Marion managed a restaurant at Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee, for many years - known as Paul's Place.

9. Irene Lancaster BARTHOLOMEW. Born in 1919. Resided in Huron, Henderson County, Tennessee in 2000.

Irene Lancaster married James Hardie JAMES, son of John X. JAMES (1880-1960) & Pearlie Mae HARRELL (1886-1941). Born in 1911 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 88, James Hardie died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 14 Jul 1999. Buried in Jul 1999 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Jim".

Obituary: Services for James Hardie James were Friday, July 16, 1999, at Reed's Chapel with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Mr. James, who was 88, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at his home. He was a farmer. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Irene Bartholomew James of Lexington; four daughters, Geraldine Moore of Humboldt, Dorothy Fesmire, Janice Johnson, both of Lexington and Lily Karen James of Brooklyn, N.Y., five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

They had the following children:
i. David James. Born on 15 Oct 1946. At the age of 9, David James died on 27 Jul 1956. Buried in Jul 1956 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

10. John Maxwell BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 25 Nov 1920 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000. Alias/AKA: "Mack".

Military: Mac served in the Army in World War II in the African and European Region.

John Maxwell first married Raymell RICHARDSON. They were divorced.

They had the following children:

ii. Johnny Ray. Resided in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000.


On 3 Nov 1978 when John Maxwell was 57, he second married Pearlie Mae TODD, daughter of Henry Everett TODD (1897-1965) & Josie MORGAN (1895-1980). Born on 9 Apr 1930. At the age of 73, Pearlie Mae died in Huntingdon, Carroll County, Tennessee on 4 Nov 2003. Buried on 5 Nov 2003 in New Hope Cemetery, Yuma, Carroll County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Mrs. Perlie Mae Bartholomew, 73, died Tuesday, November 4 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Yuma with Brother Phillip Halters officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bartholomew was born April 9, 1930 in Yuma to the late Henry E. and Josie Morgan Todd. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Floyd, Rosemary Floyd and Lavinia Hicks. Survivors include her husband, John Mack Bartholomew; two daughters, Myra Wilson and Janice Perry, both of Huntingdon; two stepsons, Johnny Bartholomew and James Sidney Bartholomew; one brother, Wilfred Todd of Huntingdon; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

No children produced from this marriage.

11. Jim Farris BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 13 Sep 1922 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000.

Military: Farris served in the navy in World War II in the Pacific Region.

On 10 Apr 1949 when Jim Farris was 26, he married Melba Jean CARNAL, daughter of Robert Buford CARNAL (1910-1986) & Pauline BRANDON (1911-1969). Born on 27 Nov 1931 in Clarksburg, Carroll County, Tennessee.

They had the following children:
i. Teddy Lynn. Born on 20 Apr 1950. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000.

On 30 Jun 1990 when Teddy Lynn was 40, he married Teresa Jo McDANIEL, daughter of Joe Ellsworth McDANIEL (1931-) & Cornelia Irene SIMONTON (1934-). Born on 25 May 1963 in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee.

iii. Neal. Born on 23 Feb 1953. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000.

12. Fay Yvonne BARTHOLOMEW. Born on 11 Oct 1924 in Darden, Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 75, Fay Yvonne died in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee on 20 Feb 2000. Buried in Feb 2000 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000. Alias/AKA: "Doc".

Fay served in the navy in World War II.

Obituary: Fay "Doc" Bartholomew, 75, of Yuma, died Sunday, February 20, at his home of cancer. Services were held on Wednesday, February 23, at the New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Rev. Phillip Halters officiated the services. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Bartholomew, the son of the late James and Lily Bartholomew, was born October 11, 1924, in Darden. He was retired from the Milan Arsenal in 1986 and was a member of the New Liberty Missionary Baptist. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dianna Bartholomew, who died in 1961; four brothers: and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Aliene Bartholomew; a daughter, Sharon Wood of Lexington; two sons, Doc Bartholomew and Bruce Bartholomew, both of Clarksburg; four sisters, Alma Lee Halter of Wildersville, Irene James of Huron, Imogene Blackwell and Opal Wall, both of Cedar Grove; two brothers, John Bartholomew of Huntingdon and Farris Bartholomew of Clarksburg; and two granddaughters, Tonya Whitaker of Clarksburg and Bethanie Wood of Lexington.

Fay Yvonne married Aline WALL, daughter of Billie Blaine WALL (1885-1956) & Maggie Lee KIRBY (1888-1953). Alias/AKA: "Top".

They had the following children:
32 i. Roger (1956-)
ii. Diana Gail. Born on 16 Mar 1960 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Diana Gail died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 10 Mar 1961. Buried in 1961 in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County, Tennessee.

iii. Bruce. Born on 26 Mar 1962. Resided in Clarksburg, 13th District, Carroll County, Tennessee in 2000.

Bruce married Tracy EPPERSON, daughter of Harry Lynn EPPERSON & Carolyn ?. Resided in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee in Apr 2001. They were divorced.

33 iv. Sharon (1967-)

13. Alma Lee BARTHOLOMEW. Resided in Union Cross, Henderson County, Tennessee in 2000.

Alma Lee married J.C. HALTERS, son of Joseph R. HALTERS (1907-) & Margaret HILL. Alias/AKA: "Sebe".

They had the following children:

14. Imogene BARTHOLOMEW. Resided in Henderson County, Tennessee in 2000.

Imogene married Genie BLACKWELL.
