Obituary: A Good Woman Gone: On Wednesday, May 27, about 6:30 p.m., the death angel visited the home of L.F. Thomas, in Memphis, and claimed for his victim one of Henderson County's most beloved women, Mrs. Mary Katherine Thomas. She had been critically ill for about 10 days. Mrs. Thomas was a daughter of the late Lafayette and Nancy Ann Azbill. She was born November 14, 1859, reaching the ripe old age of 82 years, 6 months and 13 days. In 1887, she married W.S. Thomas who preceded her to the grave 16 years ago. To this union were born two children, a son, L.F. Thomas, of Memphis, and a daughter, Mrs. William (Flora) Alexander, of Beacon. She also leaves two brothers, J.C. (Neal) Azbill and George L. Azbill, both of Henderson County; three sisters, Mrs. John S. (Alice) Parker, Mrs. N.J. Parker, of Jackson, and Mrs. Dora Coble of Memphis, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her death. Some forty years ago, she professed faith in Christ and was baptized by Elder Smith of the Church of Christ near Lexington. The body was interred at Oak Grove Cemetery, Thursday afternoon, in the presence of a large crowd of relatives and friends. Prof. J.O. Brown conducted the funeral service in a very impressive manner. Since the death of her husband, she was always ready to lend a hand in or near Memphis. Many of the older people in the vicinity of Warrens Bluff will recall the pleasant memories of "Aunt Kit," as she was affectionally called, and of her effort to help the sick and needy in her neighborhood as she was always ready to lend a helping hand to those who were sick or in distress of any kind. She will be sadly missed here, but we know that she is at rest with her Savior who had provided her with a home where no more sad heart aches or sickness can ever come.
