Family of Nancy Jane ALTOM (4) & Henry Sanders WOOD

11. Nancy Jane WOOD. Born on 19 Jan 1844 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 25, Nancy Jane died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 22 Apr 1869.

Nancy Jane married John Wesley SMALL, son of Andrew Jackson SMALL Senior (1798-1850) & Mary SEAGO (1805-). Born on 7 Sep 1841 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 45, John Wesley died in Carroll County, Tennessee on 10 Aug 1887. Buried in Aug 1887 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1860. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870.

Military: Served in Confederate Army. Enlisted in infantry at Henderson, TN under Capt John Howard, Commander. Reached rank of Corporal; captured at battle Of Island No. Ten, taken to Camp Douglas in Chicago, as a POW. After taking "The Oath", he was sent to Vicksburg Mississippi as part of a prisoner Exchange. Returned home, bought land near by and raised a large family. After all his children were born he traded farms with Elijah DERRYBERRY for one Just over the county line in Carroll County TN. This farm was about 20 Miles west of the Tennessee river, five miles east of the town of Clarksburg, and near what was later the railroad town of Yuma, TN. The name Of Grovewood was given to the community and later changed to Yuma On February 18, 1895. He was married three times. Buried in the Hare Cemetery next to his father . Marble Headstone.

i. William Thomas. Born in 1868 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Tom".

ii. Mary Jane. Born in 1867 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Alias/AKA: "Mary".

iii. Alexander. Born in 1868 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Alex".


12. Elizabeth Ann WOOD. Born in Apr 1846 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 75, Elizabeth Ann died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 24 Oct 1921. Buried in Oct 1921 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Obituary: Death: Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts, aged 75 years, widow of the late William Roberts, died October 24th, 1921, in the home of her son, Charlie Roberts, (her home since the death of her husband) 3 miles northwest of Lexington. She was the mother of 14 children, of whom twelve survive, and all were present during her last sickness except Green Roberts, who lives in Western Texas. Mrs. Roberts had belonged to the Christian Church for more than fifty years and Elder J.C. Lewis conducted the funeral service at Hare Cemetery.

In 1862 when Elizabeth Ann was 15, she married William Roy ROBERTS, son of Charles ROBERTS (1800-) & Mary ROBERTS (1798-). Born in Aug 1841 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 66, William Roy died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 15 Sep 1907. Buried in Sep 1907 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 17, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1850. Resided in District 15, Carroll County, Tennessee in 1870.

iii. Charles Spencer. Born on 2 Oct 1866. At the age of 59, Charles Spencer died in Cooter, Missouri on 2 Oct 1925. Buried in Nov 1925 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Charlie".

Obituary: Charley Roberts formerly of this county died Monday at Cooter, Missouri, where he had lived about two years after an illness of about four weeks, from paralysis. The remains were brought to Lexington Tuesday and conveyed to the home of his brother, Luther Roberts, two miles east of town. Mr. Roberts was 59 years old on the day of his death having been born October 2, 1866. He leaves a wife and six children, and several brothers and sisters: Luther, Leroy, Bud and Joe Roberts of Henderson County; Herbert and Florence Roberts of Texas, and Mrs. Lessie Hamilton and Mrs. Anice Bell Rush. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Wilson of Wildersville with burial in Hare graveyard.

Charles Spencer first married Emaline AZBILL, daughter of Harvey AZBILL (15 Mar 1842-28 Apr 1920) & Nancy Jane HOWELL (11 Nov 1846-14 Mar 1914). Born in 1867 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 36, Emaline died in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1903. Alias/AKA: "Emmie".

Charles Spencer second married Magnolia OWENS, daughter of Joseph L. OWENS (1845-1907) & Eliza Jane AZBILL (4 Dec 1854-29 Nov 1927). Born on 6 Oct 1886 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 63, Magnolia died on 21 Jul 1950. Buried in Jul 1950 in Antioch Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

viii. Hubert Clyde. Born on 19 Mar 1876. At the age of 79, Hubert Clyde died on 23 Dec 1955.

Hubert Clyde married Willie HOOD. Born on 15 Jul 1887. At the age of 69, Willie died on 14 Jun 1957. Buried in Jun 1957 in Highland Cemetery, Deport, Texas.

ix. Ellis Green. Born on 10 Aug 1879. At the age of 24, Ellis Green died on 12 Sep 1903.

36 x. Andrew Florence (1881-1950)
xi. Arthur D.. Born on 11 Jul 1883. At the age of 65, Arthur D. died in 1949.

Arthur D. married Laura Bell HAMILTON. Born in 1878. At the age of 70, Laura Bell died in 1948. Buried in 1948 in Antioch Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

xii. Luther Hart. Born on 21 Oct 1885. At the age of 74, Luther Hart died on 29 Sep 1960.

Luther Hart married Mattie Allma RHOADS. Born on 31 Oct 1886. At the age of 74, Mattie Allma died on 16 Oct 1961. Buried in Oct 1961 in Hare Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee.

37 xiii. Lessie (1888-1959)

13. Rachel M. WOODS. Born on 2 Jan 1851 in Tennessee. At the age of 86, Rachel M. died in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee on 1 Jul 1937. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880. Resided in District 5, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1930.

Rachel M. married James Henry GIBSON. Born on 20 Dec 1853 in Tennessee. At the age of 73, James Henry died in Henderson County, Tennessee on 22 Feb 1927. Buried in Feb 1927 in Beech River Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 10, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1880.

Obituary: Death took heavy toll from Henderson County Tuesday morning when James Henry Gibson, aged 72 years, breathed is last at the family home three miles north of town. He was one of the stalwarts of the county. His sickness dated back several months and a week before his death he was conveyed by physicians to St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, for consultation, but remained only a day. Born in 1855, he was married to Miss Rachel Woods, and is survived by his devoted wife, two daughters, Mrs. J.M. (Tommie) Lancaster, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mrs. J.H. (Mollie) Wilson, Timberlake and two sons, James E. Gibson and Elam S. Gibson. These are left to mourn the loss of a prominent husband and good father. Two daughters, Mrs. F.H. (Exie) Hall and Fannie, aged 12, preceded their father to the grave. Many years ago Mr. Gibson untied with the Christian Church of which he remained a devoted and loyal member until the end. Lifelong farmer, Republican and public-spirited citizen, he wielded widespread influence for good and will be sadly missed. A director and stockholder in the Central State Bank, he was a man of affairs, ruggedly honest and equitable in his dealings with his fellow man. Funeral services were conducted by Prof. J.O. Brown at the family residence. Internment in the family cemetery.

iii. Exie. Born in Aug 1881. At the age of 22, Exie died on 24 Aug 1903. Buried in Aug 1903 in Beech River Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. Alias/AKA: "Eva".

Exie married F.H. HALL.

iv. Fannie. Born on 24 Jan 1886. At the age of 10, Fannie died on 21 Dec 1896. Buried in Dec 1896 in Beech River Cemetery, Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

Mary married J.Henry WILSON.


14. George Washington WOOD. Born on 22 Feb 1853 in Henderson County, Tennessee. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870.

George Washington married Elizabeth Jane MCCARROLL. Born on 1 Mar 1858 in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee.

They had one child:

15. Alexander Holland WOOD. Born in 1855 in Henderson County, Tennessee. At the age of 86, Alexander Holland died in 1941. Resided in District 15, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1870. Resided in District 6, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1910. Resided in District 6, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1930.

Alexander Holland married Plina W. ?. Born in 1857 in Tennessee. Resided in District 6, Henderson County, Tennessee in 1930.
