Obituary: DAVID CROCKETT ALTOM , in his 63rd year died at his home on the west side of Lexington, Sunday last at 7 p.m. Nine days before his death Esq. Altom had a light chill, but seemingly getting over it, took a trip to his old home in the 15th district. He was taken down while on this visit and on Tuesday previous to his death, was brought home with a dangerous case of pheumonia. In spite of every effort, he continued growing worse and on Sunday the feeble flame of life expired just a little before the sun went down. Esq. Altom was a good citizen, a member of the primitive baptist church and in every sense an honest man. In all his three score years, he was guilty of no action that would bring the blush of shame to his people. The progress esteemed him as he deserved and feels the deepest sympathy for bereaved widow and 8 children. His remains were carried Sunday to the 15th district.

Obituary: SARAH (SHIPMAN) ALTOM - aged 71 years and 8 months, died Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the home of her son, James R. Altom, a half mile west of town. After an illness of several days. She was the wife of David C. Altom, who preceded her several years ago. She is survived by eight children, four boys, Sylvester J. of Wildersville, David, Oscar, James R. and four daughters, Lizzie Duke, Ocie Hearington, Viola Roberts, and Dora Scott, all of whom were with her at the time of her death. Through a well-spent life of loving unselfish service for others, she at last reached a ripe age and went to a glorious reward. No husband ever had a more loving wife, child a more faithful mother, friend a truer friend. To the end she remained steadfasat in religious faith and no doubt remains as to the fact that her eternal abiding place is with the blessed in the heavenly haven of the soul. She was a devoted member of the free will Baptist church. The children have sustained a severe loss in the taking of so good a mother, and have the sympathy of the entire community. The burial occured in the Altom Graveyard near Darden, Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock after brief religious services.
