Obituary: Killed: William Douglass, aged about 21 years, son of William H. Douglas, of the old 8th district, died Monday from the effects of a blow administered by the father on Thursday morning of last week. From information received here it is said that the father was arousing the boy for the day's work and three times called upon William to get up and he disobeyed. The father threatened to strike the boy who had been unfortunate and rather unruly at times, and being provoked by the boy's demeanor did strike him on the head with a bed slat and from the blow the young man never regained consciousness. The elder Douglass, who is known as a quiet, home loving man, is almost crazed with grief over the act and he has the sympathy of the great majority of the neighborhood. [April 30, 1909: William H. Douglass was arraigned and bound over to Circuit Court. On the question of sanity an inquisition was held and Judge Wallace sent Douglass to the Western State Hospital for the insane.
