Murphy School
(approximately 1910)

"Murphy School" was established by Joseph R. Murphey, 
who was also the headmaster until his death in 1857.
  This school was established as a private
 or "subscription" school characteristic of the day
 and many a citizen of the Clarksburg community
 received his or her education there.
  Public schools as we know them came later.
